Obama Assault Weapon Ban

It won't be house to house confiscation, but it could look a lot like this:

"On or after January 1st 2014 possession of any semiautomatic rifle by non Law Enforcement officers will be a class B Felony with a 6 month grace period for all civilian owned semi automatic long guns or handguns to be lawfully turned in at market value to local law enforcement agencies."

^So no, they're not going door to door, but you will be arrested with you AR, AK, or 870 when you go to the range to practice. The fudds will report you, because as of *now* in our hypothetical .22 bolt actions and revolvers are still legal.

This. Add a reward for turning someone in and an amnesty buy-back and fudds would be on that like Klinton on an intern. Hell, a quarter of NES would go nuts selling out fellow gun owners.

Even if your rifles are pre ban? That would be ridiculous.
 
One problem with all this: you need a congressional majority to pass it and that ain't going to happen. This was nothing more than pandering to his core. The uber left has been pissing and moaning about his inaction on gun control. This is more rhetoric. When I see something start to get legs in the House or Senate then I'll start to worry. Until then it's another Obama empty promise.

Exactly, and in this sense, I think Obama would be a safer choice than Mittens, because no one in is going to work with him to get something passed. They have another two years of shitting on his waffles to make sure they can get re-elected.
 
I just realized this.
There's a lot of gun shows on tv now. Seems like the public image of guns has gotten better. Maybe it's a good thing we have these bad shows?

That's a good point, but I wonder who actually watches them? It seems according to the threads on them here that most people just watch "a" show, or 2, then decide it's stupid and don't bother after that. I personally don't watch any of them.

i have to disagree with this, if Obama gets re-elected i honestly

believe he will make an earnest attempt to eradicate all firearms.

How he does it i do not know.

Brilliant! Duplicate your guns in a hardened type of plastic, then paint them to look real, with the serial numbers from your actual guns. Federal buy-back at market value, then they have you as not owning a gun any more... Get paid and still have your guns. I like this idea.

1st, Obama will be freed of election concerns so expect him to push a very liberal agenda during his 2nd term.
2nd, Romney will want to get reelected so expect him to make nice with the NRA and be pro 2A.
3rd, Obama doesn't need Congress to enact new gun regulations. He can do this through the ATF.
4th, Obama has already shown that he'll take the law into his own hands. His signature accomplishment, Obamacare, doesn't allow waivers, but that hasn't stopped HHS from handing them out like candy. Additionally, Obama is issuing his own green cards even after he himself said he'd need Congress to do it.
 
While I agree that CURRENTLY (things can change in the matter of a day, deaths, resignations, elections) we have a pretty good house of rep, all it takes is a SIMPLE MAJORITY to pass such an aggressive anti gun piece of legislation that essentially wipes out firearm ownership over night.

I am tired of people saying "it will never happen" because it CAN and it DOES happen. You should know better, especially as a Mass resident. Folks have NO EXCUSE not to vote.

Even though Romney is no 2A supporter, he won't appoint PSYCHOTICALLY leftist Supreme Court Justices the way Obama would. I am ultimately a Gary Johnson guy, but the idea of Obama getting an opportunity for THREE MORE judges will turn turn America into a de facto socialist nation over night (after all, we already have "universal" healthcare, a SOCIALIST concept)

UK has been pretty much full retard since before WW II when they had to "borrow" guns from US citizens to arm their homeguard.
 
At the end of the day, we are in a losing battle. Firearm ownership will basically be illegal within 2 or 3 decades. I just hope we get at LEAST 2 or 3 more decades! We are in a losing battle simply because of demographics and urbanization. The fastest growing segments of our society are urban, often minorities, that have little desire, use, or understanding of firearms. Urbanization is in large part why the European nations became so vehemently anti gun.

There is no sporting application in a city and police have no respect for self defense whatsoever. Our cities in the United States, even in "pro gun" states are a forecast of what an anti gun America. Despite the 2nd Amendment you cannot carry (unless you're VERY well connected) in NYC, Chicago...heck even in ANCHORAGE ALASKA the police will give you a hard time about OC...

^That is the realism, herein lies the optimistic side of me. TAKE YOUR KIDS, NEIGHBORS, FRIENDS, EVERYONE for a FUN, SAFE day at the range, and secondly vote and think the issues through.
