Pro-gun activist blasts state Senate GOP; offers to help Dems
ALBANY, N.Y. A long-time pro-gun activist says he's fed up with the state Senate's Republican majority. He says, quote, "They've become more Democrat than the Democrats."
Now Gerald Preiser is willing to help Democrats win the few seats needed to control the chamber.
Preiser has a list of about 900-thousand gun owners and hunters that he's offering to Senate Democrats for campaign purposes. The names come from his now-defunct group, the Federation of New York State Rifle and Pistol Clubs.
Republicans now have a 35-to-26 edge in the 62-seat Senate, and they lost three seats in 2004.
Preiser says he does not expect the Democrats to sympathize with his cause. He says this is more of a message to the G-O-P.
An aide to Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno dismissed the threat and said Preiser, quote, "lives in New Jersey."
Preiser does live in New Jersey.
