New Folks Check In and Say Hi #4

New Member

Hello,
My name is John, I am from Cape Cod. NES was brought to my attention by a good friend who is also a member here. I've been shooting guns for awhile now through the military and now that I'm out I went ahead and got my LTC class A. I'm new at all the gun rules and regulations here in MA but with hours upon hours of reading ahead of me I can see that this forum is going to answer a lot of those questions I may have. Once again hello to all the member and enjoy the rest of your day.

Hi,

My name is Dave and I live on the North Shore. I'm currently waiting for my LTC and found NES when looking for some "light reading" on Mass. gun laws. For the meantime please excuse my newbness, and I look forward to many good conversations.

Welcome to the forum Dave. There's no need to apologize for being new, we all were at some point. If you get stuck and need some help try the search feature or you can shoot me a PM and I'll see what I can do to assist.

New Guy

Howdy folks! new guy to the board. First rifle at 7 (I'm 60 now) and have been hunting and shooting ever since. Load my own ammo and have a few dozen rifles and pistols, some inherited from my Father. Dad was a gunner on a P-61. I was an Air Force pilot (B-52's) during Vietnam. Hate the laws in MA. Thank God I have a ranch in TX for retirement (we carry open out there).

welcome new people!

I am new to the site and new to guns - nothing to teach and everything to learn. I have always had an interest yet also a fear.
I googled for shooting ranges and found this site.
I hope to find a place to learn to shoot in the Skowhegan Maine area!
Thanks in advance for any help!
Terry

I drove through Skowhegan last year on my way to a rafting trip, one of the most beautiful downtowns i have ever seen!

I did a little posting last week to try and help out the people of Lowell with the restrictive LTC policies there, and this morning I became a member of NES. I've done some reading on other shooting forums before, and this is the only place I've wanted to spend much time. There seems to be a great group of people here.

Semper Fi, derek.

Hello Kingfisher and millbilly - Happy to have you both

Enjoy the site and look forward to hearing from you in the discussions.

Just call me Stee, enjoy all the shooting sports. I live in Michigan but my heart still goes back to Massachusetts. Grew up watching my father compete, he was the Mass State Champ in 67, he passed away two years later after retiring from the Army. He was the captain of the Devens travelling team. I love to shoot and reload and still visit Mass as often as I can. Love the site, been lurkin for awhile... so pull me out a chair so I can get comfy

Old England joins New England

Hello New England from Old England. Well almost. Just as your ancestors abandoned the old country (or whatever other country they came from) so I have done the same. Now live in France and will never return. And never is an awfully long time.

Have quite a few guns. Handguns: S&W 686, S&W M.17, CZ75B, a couple of black powder revolvers. Long guns: 4 Winchester 1894s of different calibres, Marlin 1894, CZ 452 and a couple of shotguns. Next in line: North American Arms Black Widow .22 Mag and hopefully a Walther. Not one of those S&W Walthers. A German one or a French one or an Interarms one (though we don’t see them over here).

Have a French shooting licence which allows me to shoot targets etc and a hunting permit which I had to pass an exam in French to obtain.

I also have a BMW R1100RT motor bike.

Finally, thanks Derek for letting me in.

Pierre

Are you for real Monsieur Pierre? I'm shocked that you're a shooter living in France (or even the UK for that matter.) I thought the UK had an outright ban on handguns.

Anyway, welcome.
You are quite right. England is currently run by one socialist Scottish dictator who succeeded another socialist Scottish dictator (Tony Blair) who banned all hand guns (perhaps with the exception of black powder).

France allows up to 12 handguns, but each one must be authorised in advance, not the specific model but the category. Category I is larger calibre semi-automatics such as 9mm, 45ACP etc. Category 4 is all other handguns, both revolvers and autos. Category 5 is shotguns and hunting rifles. It's not quite as simple as that. Some revolvers, rifles and shotguns are Category I.

Derek, the streets of urban England are paved with crime, drugs and traffic jams. Getting out of town doesn't necessarily get you away from it. Where I live we have virtually none of either. And people actually talk to each other. And common courtesy is indeed common. People shake hands and/or kiss every time they meet. And that applies to your next door neighbour, people at work or someone you know slightly, not just close friends. The two countries are worlds apart. There are problems in the towns and cities with the occasional riots in Paris, but not here.

Well, welcome Pierre! Glad you're able to keep your hobby going in France. I work with a lot of Engineers from France, and despite the politics of the country, I really like the people (and especially their food and wine).

Hope you enjoy the forums.

Hey Guys,

New to the site as well as excersizing my 2nd Ammendment rights. I'm new fire arms handling and am currently moving forward with my LTC application process in the lovely City of Quincy.

I'm a recent member of both NRA and Goal (safety courses are forthcoming) and have been soaking up a wealth of infomation from this site.

Hopefully any questions I may have will not be too redundant, but man there's so much here to scan through [grin]

Good to be here, please bare with me and my spelling!

John

Hi, long time lurker, decided to register. Active on PAFOA, The High Road, etc.
Call central PA home, just retired, fixing up an old turn of the century log house.
Enjoy woodworking, machining, reloading, harassing congressman, etc, and would enjoy hearing from anyone else who does.

Just got to "practice" with my S&W 686. (First time in about 6 months). Just 18 rounds, at 50 feet, and an old rifle target. Results acceptable, not "good".All were on the paper, probably 3/4 in the black, and perhaps 3 bull or near bull. Guess I should add that 6 rounds were with right hand, 6 were left hand, and 3 of each DA, 3 SA, all offhand. Last 6 were sitting, braced 2 handed, and where the most of the ones in the black came from. So, who else practices like this?

Stee ~ Glad to have you aboard, (and all our newbies) let us throw another log on the fire and fill your mug. You must be real proud of your Dad, I know that I would be. I hope you’ll like it here It’s a great crew and ever so informative. Give a howdy to my cousin out there (Lee) I know he was into shooting for a while.

Thanks 6 for the warm welcome...There isn't a day that goes by without thinking of my father, especially when I shoot. I can do two handed what he did one handed, guess thats why I shoot alot of ppc, though the bullseye is starting to come around it would have been nice having dad around to teach. If there are any old shooters here he was known as "Shakey Bob" Roberts, Roberts the name and shootins my game.....one in a million he was.

Hi all,

My name is Jeremy and I live in Bradford, MA, after growing up in RI and living in NYC as well as FL. I grew up with a family of gun owners. My grandfather was a gunsmith in Canada, and all my older half-brothers took me to the range before I was even a teenager and taught me how to shoot handguns. I later belonged to the local gun club and did elementary target shooting with .22 rifles.
Most recently, I decided to go through with the Class A LTC in MA in order to qualify for certain divisions of a private security firm I do per diem work for. I have wanted my LTC for awhile, but never had enough impetus before.
I took my Safety Course from Jerry Denig at Haverhill Hound Rod and Gun Club, and am looking into becoming a member there. My application and fingerprints have been filed, and I'm hoping to receive my LTC by mid-November, early December at the latest.

I've decided on a S&W M&P 40c for my first gun, based on many suggestions, opinions and discussions with others. I know there is no "perfect gun", but this seems pretty well-rounded for my needs. However, the more I read, the more I plan on instantly doubling my collection and buying a smaller .32 or .38 for easier deep concelament.
I have alot of questions for the best holster for my needs, essentially based on the wardrobe I'm required to wear for my FT job (gym attire).
However, I'll save those for the forum!
And Oh yeah, as you can see, I'm kind of long-winded! Once I get typing, I don't know when to stop!

I look forward to learning from you all!

-Jeremy

*EDIT* - I also am excited to say that I'm slowly but surely getting my wife into the world of shooting! Growing up in her house, guns were very taboo, even "bad". She wasn't comfortable with the idea of a gun being in the house at first, but after the horrific tragedy of the woman who was killed in NH a few weeks ago by the 4 teenagers with machetes, she finally understood the personal safety aspect of it. Besides, if the gun was in the house, I want her to know how to access it, use it, and use it well.
I finally got her to go with me to Bob's Shooting Range in Salisbury, and they put her at ease, showed her how to operate the .22, and she jumped right in! She was very scared and nervous at first, as she'd never seen, felt or heard a gun in all of her 42 years. However, after I went through a mag of the Beretta .40, she was used to it and proceeded to shoot a 1" group at 7 yards with the .22 on her first time out!!
I was very proud of her, and very excited! She proceeded to go through the box of .22, then shot a few with the .40, and then we split a box in the M&P 9mm FS, and she shot a nice 3 inch group with the 9mm!
We were both proud of her and I'm excited that I might have the opportunity to share this sport and hobby with her!

As of now, I have my safe in the house and bolted to the floor, practicing the code a few times a day for speed, and just waiting for the card in the mail!
See what I mean about the long-winded thing??? :)
