Hello from Pennsylvania ! I hope us
southeasterners are welcome here. I live in central Pa., as I have for 66 years now. One of my customers, "45collector" told me of the forum, & I thought I'd take a look. I probably won't be a really active participant, but will check in from time to time. I've read some interesting threads here just in the last few days.
I am a retired Steelworker,(Disability, after 40 years service). I keep busy with a Hobby/Business, making custom pistol grips & inserts for Ruger, & 1911 style firearms. I am a member at both Ruger forums (.com & .net) where I use the name "41 Magnum".
I have four Children, with two diceased. We lost a Son at 3 months of age, & our youngest Daughter passed away very unexpectedly 4 years ago, at 34 Years of age. Our Son is a Sergeant in the Virginia Police, & our oldest Daughter lives just a few miles away. We have 7 Grandchildren & 2 Great Grandchildren.
I love shooting, especially handguns, but also rifles. I've been involved in shooting & hunting & reloading since I was 10 Yrs. old, when my Grandfather gave me my first .22 LR/.410 over & under. I still have it, & shoot it 56 years later. I grew up hanging around at two gunsmith's homes & shops, within a few hundred yards of my home. One of them was a rather famous long range shooter at that time in the 1950's & 60's, (Alex Hoyer). The following is an excerpt from ;

Here I must mention a tribute to the late Alex Hoyer of Mifflintown, Pennsylvania. Alex Hoyer was a full time gunsmith, and has been called the dean of long range shooting. For many years he was involved in long range shooting and varmint hunting. Hoyer was very instrumental in developing the wildcat 6.5-300 WWH cartridge. He used the Weatherby 300 case and necked it down to take the 6.5 or .264 diameter bullets. WWH stands for Weatherby, Wright, Hoyer. Wright was an engineer who helped Hoyer in developing the 6.5-300 cartridge using the Weatherby case. Many long range hunters still feel that the 6.5-300 cartridge is still the finest long range hunting cartridge available.
