If I wanted to take one of my ARs to the gunsmith, remove the permanantly attached mini-y comp and permanantly install say an M-14 style flash suppressor would this be legal. I was poking around the MGLs and unless I missed something I did not see anything that adresses this specifically ( if it does at all) Sorry if this is redundant..

The definition of an assault weapon in MGL refers to the federal AWB and it's definitions. Therefore a FS is out.

Correct, with usual caveat that the lower had been built into an AW configured rifle prior to the ban.

I always thought that if it was a permanantly attatched comp or flash supressor it was good to go. Guess I need to study up some....
