MA State Trooper accidentally shoots himself...

Article on cbs says he was transporting the shotgun from one vehicle to another and it "accidentally discharged". Those pesky self discharging shotguns again.

They put him on a helicopter so I assume it's serious.
No, thats not why they put him in the helicopter. they put him in the helicopter because of the clothes he was wearing.

He should have kept his finger off the trigger. But remember, Only the police should have guns and can be responsible.

But with all that. Best wishes to the man.

Police said the trooper is a sergeant and was transporting a department-issued shotgun from his old cruiser to a new cruiser when the shotgun went off and struck his leg.The injuries are not life-threatening, but he was taken via helicopter to UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
The sergeant was alone at the time of the incident. Police are not releasing his name at this time.

It's not what we thought, he was shot in the femur with a shotgun during training.

Here's what came over the pager:

Devens, MA *Officer Down* Fitchburg Rd. Accidental Shooting. Trooper Down During Training. Discharge Of Shotgun. Medflight E/R. 11:30am

Devens, MA *Officer Down* Fitchburg Rd. U/D: Discharge Of Shotgun During Training At Devens Airfield. Buckshot Wound To Femur. 11:32am

Wait! The media is not reporting something correctly?

Good news for the non-life threatening aspect of this. Still wonder how bad the injury is...

Let's lay off the hyperbole for 2 seconds.... if you know where that area is, there's no nearby, non-shit hospital. The nearest one is Leominster, which is pretty much a shitty hospital for anything to do with significant trauma, and it is 10-15 minutes away. Even if they brought him there they would have had the chopper take him to Umass anyways, so it doesn't make a hell of a lot of difference.

Guy sounds like a real douchebag, but the ladies appear to love him. Both these ones and the mistress that he had a kid with.

He's been around forever and is named in a bunch of articles for his police work. I don't know the guy or what happened with the shotgun, just calling him a d-bag based on that 2011 story about the incident with his wife. Could care less about the posing with under-21 girls thing that he was also in the news for.

I assume the MSP typically uses pump action shotguns?

So obviously this "accident" required a shell in the chamber, safety in off position and a finger on trigger or some other object within trigger guard to make the gun go bang.

How does this happen when you are just transferring the shotgun from one car to another?

Does the MSP transport shotguns with a round in the chamber or no?
Anyone know?

Because he didn't shoot himself just transporting it from one car to another, that is how.

It was a Glock shotgun. you know how dangerous they are.[thinking]

I find it very difficult to feel sympathy for this man after reading about his 2011 domestic violence incident. If that had been any of us (non-LE), our LTCs would be immediately revoked, guns confiscated and shipped off to Village Vault. Same thing for the negligent discharge.

Shotgun to the femur? Lucky he didn't bleed out before the helicopter get there.

Having a hard time figuring out how you shoot yourself in the femur with shotgun. The shear number of things you're doing wrong at that point is pretty high.

"Th shotgun went off."

That's police speak for the idiot put his booger hook on the bang switch when he shouldn't have. [rolleyes]
