Confused, lost, wondering why your upper lip smells like chloroform - seems legit.


I had an English teacher once upon a time, who had a thing for bad headlines. This one would have triggered her.

"St. Louis Apartment Resident Shoots Alleged Naked Intruder"

Are they alleging the intruder was naked? The article states he was naked, and alleges he intruded and then allegedly made threats. He was actually shot by the resident, who wasn't alleged to be anything.

Then the article mentions an entirely different alleged home intruder, in a different city, also actually shot by homeowner. No link is made between these events.

After reading this I am convinced that the most hazardous thing to be is alleged. All those people get shot.
