Next Wednesday, Jan 25, the Massachusetts Republican Party will elect a Chairman for the next two years.

Ms. Kirsten Hughes, the current chairman of the party, appears to be anti-2A. By contrast, her opponent for the Chairmanship, Mr. Steven Aylward, publicly supports 2A Rights and his platform is to make it part of the party platform. If Ms. Hughes is re-elected as Chair, it will have an adverse impact on MA gun owners for the next two years.

Contact your GOP state committee members. The state committee members are put in place to represent the voters in their districts, so let them know how you feel about this election and how you expect them to vote, for the promotion of Gun Rights.

To find out who your state committee members are, visit the website:

http://www.votereform.org

Type your town into the search box or scroll down the list. Send them an email and/or give them a call. Urge them to support Gun Rights by voting for Steve Aylward for chairman of the Massachusetts Republican Party. Ask them to inform you of their position and the outcome of the election.

If anyone has more info on these candidates please post.

I am not asking this in a mean spirited way, but can you source Ms. Hughes anti 2A actions/statements and Mr. Aylward's Pro 2A actions/statements?

Thanks,
Jay

MA has a Republican party? Wow. Never would have guessed.
That's basically the difference between the candidates.

Incumbent chairman Kirsten Hughes has the backing of Governor Baker, and a number of committee members who regard the Massachusetts Republican Party as nothing more than an extra bank account for the governor’s race. Challenger Steve Aylward has the backing of many committee members who care about growing the grassroots, local Republican town committees, and activists who feel growing our numbers in the Legislature should be our top priority.

http://newbostonpost.com/2017/01/13/whats-state-gop-chairman-tilt-about-not-what-you-might-think/

Republicans control just 34 seats in the 160-member House and six seats in the 40-member Senate . Democrats hold every seat in Massachusetts' congressional delegation and all the statewide elected offices other than governor. Most legislative races had no Republican candidate in the 2016 elections.

Politically, Aylward is best known for running the Tank the Gas Tax ballot campaign, a successful effort in 2014 to convince voters to overturn automatic indexing of the state gas tax to inflation. The anti-tax activists won the referendum, despite being vastly outspent by transportation advocacy groups, the construction industry and business groups.

Aylward has been on the Republican State Committee for five years and has been involved with local boards in Watertown. A supporter and colleague of Republican Geoff Diehl - they are both very pro-2A.

Response from Reed Hillman:

Hey, great to hear from you! I could never support anyone not committed to upholding the 2d Amendment, and this note I just received from Brent Andersen is right on point:

Dear State Committee Members,

In addition my duties as your Treasurer, you may be unaware that I am
a Life Member, former board member, and former treasurer of the Gun
Owners Action League. I'm as ardent a supporter of the second
amendment as any member of the Massachusetts Republican State
Committee.

Like many of you, I've been addressing constituent concerns from gun
owners in my district over the past week. Those concerns were based
primarily on a misleading, inaccurate email sent by a newly formed
advocacy organization, run by an unsuccessful former republican state
committee candidate with little interest in anything other than
self-promotion.

I took the time to call the Chair and ask her about her positions and
qualifications. Kirsten believes that the second amendment creates an
inalienable, God given, right to bear arms for hunting, recreation,
and self defense. Kirsten believes that Maura Healey's unilateral
action in 2016 to create thousands of felons-in-waiting was an
atrocious abuse of power, and will be a top campaign issue against
Healey in 2018. And Kirsten has even helped others to become gun
owners by serving as a reference for individuals seeking an LTC.

Last but not least, let's be realistic about the situation on Beacon
Hill. While Democrats rule the legislature and the AG's office, gun
rights in Massachusetts will be arbitrarily infringed on by people who
have never held or owned a gun, and could care less about
constitutional rights. Only one of the candidates for chair has been
successful in electing and re-electing Republicans to the legislature
and to statewide office in Massachusetts: Kirsten Hughes.

Gun owners and advocates here in Massachusetts should feel confident
with Kirsten Hughes as MassGOP chair... I certainly do.

Interesting, what advocacy organization is he referring to?

I contacted my committee members to ask them about this. I got a response from one - Caroline Colarusso stating "Steve and I are good friends. See the invitation attached. Please join us. Thanks Caroline."

The referenced attached invitation is to a "We the People" grassroots event on Saturday the 28th from 10a to noon - Sons of Italy Hall, 117 Swanton Street, Winchester; RSVP to [email protected] in case anyone is interested.

A response from one of my reps
Nick,Thank you for contacting me about the Chairman's election. I apologize for the delay in responding, but I just returned from the Inaugural in DC. Like you, I am a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment, as is Kirsten Hughes, whom I am supporting for Chairman on Wednesday.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill McKinney

Huh? Hughes is a strong supporter of the 2A?

State Committee elections are seldom contested but this past year, Gov. Baker and Lt. Gov. Polito backed a large contigent of their hand picked candidates to try to oust strong 2nd amendment conservatives. The establishment did endorsements, flyers, radio ads, etc. and I know Hillman was one of the chosen ones by Gov. Baker... I'm not sure about McKinney. I can tell you that the towns of Rochester, Wareham, and Westport all publicly endorsed Steve Alyward . I would equate Kirsten Hughes with Gov. Baker as far as in rights go in Mass.

So, you are saying Baker, Hillman, Hughes, and others "say" they support our rights, but do not vote that way, or go out of their way to protect and promote them?

Well, that's just peachy-keen! This person's biggest claim to fame is that she was a freaking singing waitress for 18 years. [thinking] Her earliest political experience was when she volunteered for Bill Weld's campaign when she was a kid. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say there is a decent chance that she's a Massachusetts Republican, I.E. she supports everything the socialists support, but someone in her family has some money so they decided to label themselves Republicans.

On a complete side note, having absolutely nothing to do with her possible future political career, if she is accused of any crimes, she is very, very not-guilty. [rofl]
