Keeping animals

bumped for ryan81986.

BTW, we FINALLY started getting eggs. We went from 0 to 7 per day in less than 2 weeks!

So, for Ryan:

Chickens are pretty easy. I'd recommend a few resources for you:

1) Story's Guide to Raising Chickens - Everything you want to know, in book form.
2) http://www.backyardchickens.com/ - loads of coop ideas, a good forum (Moderated in part by a former NES member)
3) http://www.gatewaytovermont.com/thefarm/chickens.htm - A good starting tutorial on what raising chickens is about.

ETA: build a bigger coop than I did. It's too narrow and is a PITA.

More pics of my chicken coop now in the middle construction phase.

Here is the base of the coop. It’s designed to be pulled around the property to give the girls more variety.

I've got about another month before the hens start laying, and the roosters, well their days are numbered.[laugh]

Nice job, that coop looks up to "earthquake zone" building codes.

How are you going to make your roof water tight? Also 2x6 pine tends to sag when it is laid on its side. Might want to reconsider your roof design...

+1

doesn't look like there is any slope to the roof. Water will pool up there and drain in. Not to mention if you get snow where you are, you're in for a collapse.
