Help me out! Trying to decide where at least part of it should go. I'm trying to augument my first purchase, a full size P99 .40

Training

If you ignore the "cool factor" - ie: having a physical object that you can show your friends in order to elicit exclamations about how "cool" it is, and how "cool" you are for owning it - you're gonna be MUCH better off with a used double action 38 revolver, lots of practice ammo, and a weeklong professional-grade training course than you will be with a custom-built super gun in 45 or whatever the fashionable caliber du jour is.

Regards
John

Yeah -- I put "blow it on training" as the 7th choice, but it wouldn't go through -- limited to 6 poll questions?

I told myself the day I bought the P99 that I'd get a 1911 one year from then, but, frig, are they awesome! I still intend to stick to that and remain "practical" on this.

The only thing that's doing me in as badly right now, and I was really thinking mil surplus rifle in relation to the poll question, is this gun porn recently posted by swatmedic:

Don't know why you couldn't add a 7th or if only Mods can do so, but I added it for you. And I'll also vote that way for you, although you'll have money left over for many toys as well.

I voted for training. No point getting a concealed carry gun if you don't have the proper training to back it up.
Besides, if your return is high enough you can get some good training AND a nice .22 for target practice.

I'm a true believer in a nice rifle. I haven't quite gotten into the AR's or SKS' or AK's of the sort yet, but I absolutely LOVE a nice bolt action rifle with a nice Leupold on it.

Be careful. 2 years ago I was looking at my small collection of about 6-7 handguns and it dawned on me that I had no long guns.

During the next 18 months I acquired nearly 25, from an .22 to a Thompson and a lot in between.

Watch out for what you ask for, you may get it!

You mean you aren't going to save the tax refund for a rainy day???

Me neither [lol]

How can anybody be happy without a 1911???

Just can't see it! If eveybody had 1911s suicide would be Zero.

A guy would be crying thinking about somthing bad....maybe thinking about ending it all....but decide to do it after he ran a few boxes throught the 1911. Then he was happy again!

Weer'd I know this is going to make you think I'm not so cool... but I've never shot a 1911 I liked. <ducking>

No worries, my good friend HATES my 1911. Simple as this he has small hands, and the way he grips the gun it often doesn't trigger the grip safty.

Dunno if it's the same with you or not.

For me I don't even notice the grip safty, because it's tripped just by me holding the gun.

If we want to play, I know you have a glock, and I can talk smack about how much I don't like thems things [lol]

007, I order you to go shoot a 1911 (and a Glock too!) and then you can add! 8)

Weer'd, some day I will shoot a 1911...I promise. I have shot Glocks before, and truthfully am not impressed. They fit my hand ok, and I'm definitely not a fan of the trigger...I can't stand that little extending trigger safety. Sorry to disappoint you there...I LOVE my H&Ks (I own 4 now (Mark 23, USP Tac, 2 x USPc 40 SS). I also love my P99, though I'm not completely thrilled with the trigger.

With regard to the 1911 though, I fully intend on shooting a 1911 one of these days...It's just a matter of finding somebody who has one that I can shoot.

Can't take you too long...it's like finding somebody with a Mosin Nagant. There are just too many of them around to NOT find somebody with one.

I shot an H&K USP Tactical once.....LOVED it to DEATH....one of these days, one will follow me home!

My problem is my schedule...If I hit up the range, I'm usually doing it late at night after work...Though I usually try to make it on Tuesday afternoons as well, because that's my one day off from work, so I shoot before heading to class at night.

If I ever run into you at MRA, you're more than welcome to shoot the Tac or any of the others.

Sounds like a plan C-pher. I'll bring each of them so you can try them...and eventually want an H&K. I hope that a Tuesday morning/afternoon wouldn't be putting you out of your way?

Not usually...Tuesday is my only day off from work, unless I request a day off. If not Tuesday (I don't want to be responsible for you missing work), perhaps some night this coming week? I'll keep in touch and we can figure something out.

Thanks again

Not all 1911s fit all people comfortably. It took me from 1977 until my Jim Crews class in 2004 to learn this bit of info.

I bought two 1911s back in 1977. One was strictly a customized target gun. I could not shoot them well and they weren't comfortable in my hand. Thus, they sat in my safe for 20+ years. Finally sold the almost new (~300 rds thru it) Colt 1911 to a MAF member back in 2001.

Turns out that I needed a short trigger (as cheap as ~$15) and the gun now fits my hand. I bought a S&W 1911 and changed out the trigger. It is now one of my favorite carry guns!

SR, if we ever pull off the little get together that Mike mentioned to me you are welcome to try it. I'll bet you'll have a different opinion after that! [wink]
