I went shooting this morning at a buddy's house in Hooksett with my VZ. Everything went fine untill the second 5 shot string. I had just pushed 5 rounds into the mag from the stripper clip, then the targets fell over. We both went to clear our rifles, he ejected his mag and cleared his chamber, i flipped the safety to the intermediate and cleared mine, but when I did the bullet came flying out of the case, the powder went everywhere, and I noticed the case is split from the neck down to the extractor groove. The primer is still intact, and none of the powder burned. Has anybody ever had this happen before? What would have happened if I had actually fired it?

Yugoslav surplus. 1947 headstamp. The bullets themselves are kinda funky, they kinda remind me of the Soviet LPS style bullets inasmuch as they have a somewhat hollow base. I'm assuming that under the pressure of firing the base of the bullet would expand slightly and grip the rifling...
