I cant find the reference, but I thought that the glove box was explicitly called out as NOT a place to store your gun. But perhaps that is during transport and not for storage?
I wouldn't do it - I use one of the cheap lockboxes (that I am now thinking about replacing, per Turbo38N's post). Too many tales about overzealous LEOs (#Swampscott) and I'd rather have a strong defense showing positive steps I took to secure my firearm vs. using what was just there and what is relatively easy to break into.

I wonder if Al Gore will lend me his lock-box that he keeps my social security money in?
