Holyoke shootout hits pregnant woman riding on city bus, killing her baby

Three guys got in a beef and shot up a neighborhood, hitting several people. One round penetrated a passing PVTA bus and hit the woman in the abdomen. Doctors delivered the baby, but it died. Police said the three are in custody.
Bet they will not be charged with murder. After all, the laws up there do consider a baby to be a baby until a doctor declares it was born alive.

Cameras? Really? They mayor is an idiot. Cameras don't make anyone safer. Cameras do not stop crime. They can only passively record crime. They are generally too high up to provide anything useful for identifying criminals.

"Police say that many of these ShotSpotter activations do not generate a 911 call from people in the area."

Huh. Gee.
Shotspotters are stupid.. the theory is it will show the police which areas to patrol and enforce law. It’s not very helpful when there’s gunshots all over the place there was just an article about this that they were concerned about the number of shots discharged in the city in a months period…
The whole thing is a waste of money.

I love how they say there wasn’t police calls over gunfire. Why would you have to call the shot? Spotter tells you when and where it happened. Shouldn’t they be just getting out there right away?

The best part is during the Fourth of July all the yutes like to shoot in the streets because no one will call… the reality is no one’s gonna call at any time of the year

Though this story is very sad, the saddest part of this whole story is that politicians will get many people to believe that this could have been prevented with more gun laws. If gun laws really prevented crime, then there would be no crime. I read somewhere that there are more than twenty thousand gun laws in this country. How many more laws do we need before even the dumbest person realizes that gun laws do not work?

Apply the Cain killed Abel with a rock story to current laws. Same outcome, different times.
You can't ban any item and expect murder to disappear.
Murder is an action. Not a object.

Just posting it here since a few more details came out:

Johnluis Sanchez, 30, who was wounded during the shooting, remained hospitalized and will be arraigned “when his condition allows,” Gulluni’s office said. According to court records, Sanchez was free on $10,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty on Sept. 20 to heroin trafficking and illegal possession of a stolen gun. Officers also seized ammunition clips and $3,000 in cash, records show.

So, he already violated current MA firearm laws, was given bail and went right back out and got another gun illegally.

"According to Hampden County DA spokesman Jim Leydon, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, Holyoke Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section is searching for 28-year-old Kermith Alvarez of Holyoke, who is the third suspect that is being sought in connection with last week’s shooting on Sargeant Street which claimed the life of an infant.

Alvarez is described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 230 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

If you have information about the whereabouts of Alvarez, you are asked to contact the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit at (413) 505-5993 or the Massachusetts State Police: Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section at 1-800-KAPTURE (1-800-527-8873).
