My 10th grade biology teacher claimed that polydactylism was a dominant trait,
and that one day we'd all have extra digits.

"Polydactyly is an abnormality characterized by extra fingers or toes. The condition may be present as part of a collection of abnormalities, or it may exist by itself. When polydactyly exhibits by itself, it is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait"

Too early to say "This thread delivers", but it's starting out really well. Some inspired posts by unhealthy minds here already.

I'm Irish too. So was John Holmes. I think he was a distant cousin....

i just wonder - how exactly that 6 finger thing with all the supporting bones fits into the official history of local planet earth based mammals?

At least it's a normal finger, there is a guy who works at a local convenience store that had and extra stubby finger but with a long manicured nail, it is creepy.

Normal extra fingers are more the exception than the rule.

Many have only three fingers, mainly in cartoon land.

I know someone who has another pointer finger on each hand in place of his thumbs. A little strange at first shaking hands!
