is there any reason anyone can think of that dicks sporting goods would need me to answer whether i am a us citizen or a permanent resident? I wasn't buying ammo or guns. but before I could continue with the sale the lady said I had to answer the question on the little credit card screen thing, and that was the question. I told her I thought it was strange and didn't want to answer. I am obviously a local ( cargo shorts, Boston hat, tee shirt, no R's pronounced). She said before the sale could happen I had to answer. she eventually just hit the yes button. otherwise everyone in the store was pleasant, just seemed like a strange policy. anyone know the reason for it?

Dicks is getting weird. I haven't shopped there in quite a while , but they seem to have some bored and odd members in upper management.

it is strange. isn't it the right of a U.s. citizen to no be checked like this or is that just police related? either way I am not the guy from youtube ****ing with border security, but this seemed insane. Does everyone have to answer this question? or was i Flagged? the people in the store were nice an friendly. this was the one in Plymouth.

I stopped shopping there a couple of years ago, after they wouldn't sell my teenage kids a nylon bag without ID.

Is it legal for them to ask thaat kind of questions? Yes. It's their business, they run it every way they want. Do it like me, and just don't shop there, and you send kind of a message.

I remember about 10 years ago Mobil gas stations wanted to scan my license to purchase a pack of cigarettes.. I told them no way they could scan it and I would go elsewhere.. They just overrode the system or something.
I bought ammo at a Dick's just once and it was a bit over the top. They had to escort me to the cash register and made a big deal out of the whole transaction. Now I do not even consider them when I think about buying ammo locally.

i was in the nashua store yesterdaty for hunting loads for the 12ga and had to answer the same question and was asked for my ID for birthdate verification..... i cant wait till cabelas and bass pro are in the area, i wont have to set foot in there anymore

They asked for my ID when I tried to buy a pack of Big League Chew last month. I'm dead-serious, too. Register prompted her to and everything. And this was BEFORE I paid (would've paid cash anyways)

BLC is delicious, but I can buy it with no ID at the candy store in Shrewsbury, so I told them "nevermind". They suck.

three of the last five items I purchased at Dick's were either restocked broken returns, or didn't work new outta the box... My last ammo purchase went as follows [rolleyes]

Remember, the basic premise of retail is selling what you have in order to make a profit... this was not a promotion, or an advertised sale...

(me) I'd like 10 boxes.
(him) I only have 9...
(me) Then I'd like 9.
(him) I can sell you 5.
(me) Five? Why only five?
(him) Because then I'll have four left.

At this point I could not argue the man's logic, 9-5=4...it was inescapable... though I was starting to question his sanity...

(me) I don't understand, they're clearanced...they were five dollars, then 3.99, and the sign says take an additional 15% off all remaining...
(him) They're not clearanced...They're marked down...
(me) ...and why can't you sell me all 9?
(him) we have to limit quantities, to "spread the wealth"
(me) [thinking]

I point to the sign that notes limiting the number of certain types and calibers of ammo to six boxes per customer...it specifically notes the items limited, and these were not on it...

(me) But these aren't on the list.
(him) then I'll have to add them...
(me) Then add them, and sell me six boxes...
(him) I can't...
(me) why not?

wait for it....

(him) because then I'd have only three boxes left.
(me) [frown][frown]

He's going to reserve the last four boxes to spread the wealth...

My eye is twitching at this point, but I still have the where-with-all to sum up that I'm about to mushroom cloud over (5.00-3.39)x the 4 boxes left = 6.44 plus tax...

He lost my future business over $6.44...

Dick's is a last resort for me, and I put a clothes pin on my nose before I go...

It was my first time at Dick's. I thought about trying there for ammo since I was also going to wallyworld. I figured I could turn a hunt for a new toilet seat into a ammo buying adventure. guess I was wrong. I must have missed the posts about Dicks in the past. If I answer "no" to the citizen question will they not sell to me? or is it just a way for them to figure out ways to sell to more illegals? I am married to a non citizen, but we spent tens of thousands of $ and a couple years to do the process the right way. this seems insane.

Why would this upset you? I mean, when you vote they ask you if you're a citizen.......uhhhh, wait a minute....sorry, I lost my head for a moment. [laugh]

Cabelas won't help you... That is being built in MA, so assuming you are a NH resident, you can't buy ammo in MA.

Don't ever buy a gun at Dicks unless you have an hour to waste. About ten years ago i bought a mossberg 500 at dicks and it took me a hour to get out the door plus i had to fill out a ton of extra paperwork. I will never buy from them Dicks again .

I would think this is more of an optional survey if not tied to gun paper process. Never heard of a store refusing to complete a sale transaction if someone refused a survey.

I bought a Remington 870 yesterday and it did ask those questions you mentioned. [smile]

How many of these policies are instituted at the local level, rather than chainwide? The West Springfield store has never given me grief; never had to be escorted to the registers with ammunition purchases, no questionnaires when checking out, etc. I haven't been in a few months, so I am not certain if anything has changed.

i'm not sure. yesterday was my first time in any of the stores. it is sad but either way it is an inappropriate question but i would have felt better if they didnt expect me to disclose this info to a 16 year old girl. i would prefer not to give any info to the 9 dollar people. i should have said that i need id from her.
