Dicks sporting goods

Dicks had trap shells, but they wanted 9.99 a box for remi nitro thats all they had, wally world had winchester for 6.00 a box

The last time I shopped there , for ammo , was maybe 2 years ago. They had what I wanted but had to put it in this big lucite plastic box. The top locked with some kind of electric key fob thing. Then he handed it over to me to take downstairs to the register.

Now the salesman had just checked my Ma. LTC. And because I had shopped the often enough he knew I wasn't a nutcase when I said :

"What is this thing? "
"It's a store safety policy"
" don't you think it's sort of pointless , since I am carrying a loaded gun right now ? "
He agreed it was stupid.

This was the Danvers store , before NorthShore firearms opened , or I had discovered Reilly's

I love it when places ask for my ID for a purchase, that you must be 21 to buy...I look them right in the eyes and say really, and smile...they then hit the over ride key and I check out......I'm 63, total grey hair, what's left of it....guess they just talk before they think.....[wink]

So, I was in the area of the Saugus Dicks today and decided to see what they had. I know, I know, I should know better.

I go upstairs, the conversation went something like this:

(Lodge Employee) : what can I get you?
Me: a box of 22 (500 brick) and the that lonely box of PMC Bronze
LE : Well, i'm only supposed to sell you one bulk pack, but since it's the last PMC, I'll let you have it
* he checks my LTC and walks me to the register *
Me : An escort to the register?
LE : Yeah, we're connected to the mall and they're worried about people running off with the Ammo (Actually sound logic?!)
Me : Yeah, I can see that.
* we arrive at the register *
(Register Employee) : *scans in the PMC* Can I see your License?
Me : *show him my license covering the number, he maneuvers it so he can the birthdate, it never leaves my possession*
RE : *scans in the CCI 22 brick* Oh, I need your license number
Me : No you don't, just put random numbers in
RE : I can't do that
Me : Sure you can
RE : I really can't
Me : Okay, can you get a manager (I'm irked and decided to cost them some productivity, either they'll let me buy it to make me go away, or I'll go away, yeah, I know, I'm being a dick, just like them )
Manager : We have to put in your license number to complete the purchase
Me : No, you can just put in any sequence of numbers
Manager : No, we can't
Me : Sure you can. Do you have a written copy of this policy btw?
Manager : *goes to look*
Manager : *returns* we don't have a copy in the store
Me : Then, just put all ones or a random series of numbers in
Manager : We can't do that
Me : Why not? I purchased ammo at the Natick store and didn't have to provide my license information (I actually did, a 375 pack of either Federal Automatch or CCI AR tactical)
*People start lining up at the register*
Manager : I need your license number or I cannot complete the sale
Me : Well, then I guess you just lost a sale

So, I went up to NSF and bought some 223 and a magazine. Since I was in Danvers, I decided to poke the bear again.

Danvers now has a policy you are limited to ONE box of certain calibers per day per customer, Saugus was three boxes of non-bulk, one box of bulk. ie: You can't buy three boxes of American Eagle 223, but you can buy one box of 223 and one box of 5.56.

While checking out, I do the same retain control of the permit thing and the checkout kid mentions he might need to see it again (for the license number). For whatever reason, it doesn't ask for my License number. The system asks the us citizen question, I ask what happens if I say no, CE says I can't sell it to you. Fine, whatever. Further talking to this employee, Dicks is supposedly tracking centrally the License numbers and using that to prevent people from going to multiple stores and buying more ammo that's on the one per day restricted list. Yet, the ammo I just purchased is on the one per day list, yet no entering of the LTC number.

So I haven't shopped at dicks all that often because I really dislike them, but at this point I was aggravated and wanted to figure out what triggers the License question.

My theory is :
Bulk packs of 500 or more rounds
*Maybe* pistol ammo, but the .22LR from natick didn't trigger it, so I don't now

Overall, yeah, won't be shopping there again, fook them. I might karma off the ammo I bought just to reset the balance of the universe.

I was asked at K-Mart years ago, I was asked "Are you a fugitive from justice" I answered No, " Have you ever been convicted of domestic violence"? Me, no, never convicted (line from Stripes) she just stared at me and completed the sale

Support mom and pop shops because they're the only ones who will support us when corporations like Walmart and Dicks tuck their tail behind their tiny balls and run scared.

i wish i could support smaller shop but the price around me is way too high, i've never been asked for my lic number. small shop 22lr 500 is 45 dicks 19

I pledge that every time I go into Dicks I will give them a MAJOR HASSLE (completely polite and respectfully, of course) requiring manager intervention if they ask for identifying information or other intrusive questions.

If we all do the same, I bet they would start to get the idea.

Use the Walmart app. It saves on fruitless trips. For fireams and ammo you have to enter the search strings manually, i.e., ".380" or "9mm" to get results.

just tried the walmart app last night. the walmart by my house does not sell ammo, but many others do. sadly they are all out of what i need.

I don't shop at Dicks but I may just 'attempt' to purchase ammo there so I can refuse to give them my license number. Is it even legal for them to collect license numbers and stiore them? Seems to me that would be illegal even in MA.

Think of it as an investment. That extra 25 dollars is a small price to pay to ensure you have a supply of arms when you truly need it. Every dollar given to the large corporation, who doesn't need your money to survive, is one less dollar going toward a business that believes in what they're doing and needs your support to survive.

Dicks can afford to stop selling ammo and guns during the aftermath of a shooting. The small shops not only believe in what they're doing but they can't afford to tuck tail...

First off, that's $26 not $25, and that's over a $19 rational price.

A few bux is one thing, but a $26 surcharge is a complete ass raping, and the store should suffer the consequences of jacking up prices like that.

We were charged by a local store $12.50 for 100 rounds of .22lr repackaged into a baggie when my wife bought her gun. That was a rate of $60 for 500. They had us by the short hairs and decided to sell it at that price to make an extra $5 or $6 off of a customer who had just spent $50 over MSRP for a pistol... they won't see a penny more of my business unless I'm bleeding out.

They can charge whatever they like and I'll defend their right to do so. But just as they chose to hose me when they could, I won't be supporting them when they need it.
