Next week I need to pick up my sister from the Manchester, NH airport. If I'm not attempting to cross a security checkpoint is it legal for me to carry concealed (I have a valid NH CCW permit) at the airport?

I'm less brave about these things and wouldn't do it. You can bet that you know the laws better than 90% of the TSA and security people. If you get found out you shouldn't need a lawyer, but you'll have a long day and your sister will take a cab.

I haven't been to Manchester airport in several years, so do not know how much it has changed.

Is it even possible now to cross into a secure area without knowing it and getting an anal probe in the process?

I like all my i's dotted and t's crossed so I emailed the Manchester Airport about a little over a year ago and asked. You can carry concealed if you're licensed but not in the secure areas. Yes, pickup and delivery is fine as well as the parking areas.

You are fine. Its sad that we have to ask these types of questions.

Don't want to hijack this thread, and I already know we can't carry at Logan. But, one thing the TSA has started doing at Logan is running the millimeter wave systems outside of security. When I was in terminal A a few weeks ago, they had one system pointed at one of the escalators / entry ways, and two TSA guys were sitting at a folding table behind it looking at screens. (At least, I think that's what the system was. I couldn't get a good look at the images while still avoiding a good fondling.)

Guess they don't run that system up in Manchester.

Just an update to close out this thread. I did end up carrying at the airport when I went to pick up my sister. No problems at all.... except it feeling a bit weird to be armed at an airport.

Does Manchester have secured areas when picking up passengers? My wife always has to wait by the baggage belts. Maybe it's airline I take in? I know out here when I'm in Reno I don't have to go near a security checkpoint if she visits. At least not one that I can see anyway.

You just walk in and meet the person in the "non sterile" half of the airport, just like pretty much every other airport in america.

Yep, I met me sister just outside of the restricted area. The baggage area was just next to the waiting area.... very convenient (surprising for an airport).

MHT depends on the airline, there are 2 baggage areas one to the North end of the terminal for Southwest and USAir- that is on the ground level but folks exit the secure area upstairs, and the South end of the terminal for United/Continental and Delta, folks exit the secure area right by the baggage carousels...

These are both unsecured areas.

Just to the right of Security at MHT is the Sam Adams "Meetinghouse", it's at the North end of the terminals (technically, the restaurant is is Londonderry), on the public side of the airport, with a glass wall looking into the terminal. One of the best meals you'll ever have in an American airport.

Is there any public airport in the USA which allows people through security/ into the secured areas, without either a boarding pass or a special 'escort/caretaker' pass?

Last time I picked somebody up at MHT it was a couple of the instructors for the NEShooters "Summit" earlier this year. As soon as their baggage arrived, one of them opened up his bag, removed his gun, loaded it, and put it on. All within plain sight of one of the state police in the terminal. New Hampshire really doesn't care.

Yeah, we're funny like that here in free states.
