Since President Donald Trump won in 2016, people were led to believe that the Trump administration would be one of the most pro-gun administrations ever.

However, a bump stock ban courtesy of the ATF and the passage of Fix-NICS legislation has disappointed gun owners who believed Trump would make at least some marginal pro-gun reforms. To Trump’s credit, he is reportedly resisting the temptation of pushing “red flag” gun confiscation legislation — for the time being.

Not surprisingly, the real progress has been at lower levels of government, where local activists and policymakers have managed to expand laissez faire on the matter of private self defense. For starters, constitutional carry has had unexpected success in 2019, with states like Oklahoma , South Dakota , and Kentucky making it law in their respective jurisdictions. This continues a decades-long trend in which state governments have scaled back gun regulations.

It sure gets complicated when local governments and law enforcement agencies look to decide local policies and what laws to enforce. One can hear "Sheriff's should enforce the law" when Gun Sanctuary is discussed but one hears support for Illegal Immigrant Sanctuary when that's discussed. Gun Sanctuary is LEOs and localities not willing to enforce what they believe to be wrong laws and the Illegal Immigrant Sanctuary is LEOs and governments ordered to not cooperate with federal ICE actions enforcing laws.

Illegal Immigrant Sanctuary requires taxpayer money be spent to support those who cross the border without authorization.

Gun Sanctuary looks to refuse efforts to take gun, restrict guns and tax guns.

The liberal/progressive/Democrat position supporting Illegal Immigrant Sanctuary and opposing Gun Sanctuary is very consistent - liberals/progressives/Democrats demand to take your money and property as they see fit without giving up anything themselves. And when crime rises and they run out of other people's money, they expect their government to protect and support them as a ruling class of elites.
