AR mag question???

I recently bought a Colt AR pre ban. It was unfired in the box with all the origional goodies. I hadn't had time to shoot it until today. When I loaded my Colt 30 round mags they took their 30. When I tried to load the two 20 rounders that came with the gun they would only take 5 each. I tried depressing the follower and can see it hangs up 1/4 of the way down on both. Any ideas?

Take the floorplate off the magazine and take out the sheet metal 5 round block that is in there. It is shaped in a big U.

One of my factory Saiga mags had a plastic block in it that allowed for only 5 rounds. Taking the follower out allowed me to remove it and use the full capacity. I'm guessing they're used when hunting or where regulations are tight.
I don't know about AR mags but its worth a look.

Hunting laws require it in a lot of places.

From the 70's Colt AR's always had 5 round factory mags. They were simply blocked 20 rounders.
