SHTF TRANSPORTATION

While Ripsaw is really nice, the MS1 version is unmanned only and the MS2 version is only a two-seater (with optional manned/unmanned control) I've wondered what it would be like to ride in an MS2 when someone was remote driving. Would make for an interesting escort / rescue:

Remotely piloted vehicle with 2 solders on board and able to remain focused on potential threats. And don't forget the remote pilot has a turret mounted weapon, upto an M-2 Machinegun available for additional protection.

The Howe & Howe Technology vehicle I think is better suited as an SHTF transport is actually the SR-X family. These rovers built for coal mines have 6 seats, handle a 45 degree incline in-line or off-axis, have massive 18" of ground clearance and are only 78" tall. Oh, and the body pannels are 1/8" steel plate over 2" steel tube frame.

They are base $90k and hand built in Maine. While the normal model has a governer at 21mph, they are capable of 42mph without it. Add doors (base model doesn't have doors) and a roof cargo rack and you can carry what you need over almost any terrain you'd need to.

Update:

Howe & Howe just came out with their new EV2 luxury tracked vehicle.

Pedal bike. What happens when the highways are clogged and the gas runs out. Japanese army overran Malaysia using bikes.

It's probably been suggested already, but ultralights use little fuel, have short takeoff/landing requirements and float ABOVE traffic jams and hordes of murderous refugees. If I'm not mistaken, they'd typically have a non electronic ignition system, should the disaster happen to be an EMP.

This assumes you are single. It would not work as a family vehicle.

If hundreds of millions of families in Asia can use a 50cc scooter as reliable transportation for a family of four, I see no reason the same couldn't be done with an ultralight.

Weight is the big factor in ultralights your Asian family of four weighs MUCH less than your American family. Also, fuel tanks are small, and hence, range is limited. However, if you own/can fly one, it may help give you an option. make sure spouse and or teen can fly it too, if necessary. can be tricky in a high wind. Limited by law to 2 seats.

[ QUOTE=PennyPincher;1110347]I'm stealing the nearest vehicle with a full tank. After all, most of the sheep in my neck of the woods don't have a gun to defend themselves.[/QUOTE]
Don't make it a white Ford Edge. Spouse is excellent shot with rifle, and I'm pretty good with a handgun. ANYONE from little old lady to acne-faced teenager could be carrying concealed. You never know!

After the shtf and you are living your life with family and like minded friends that you trust, living off stores of sundries and the land/water, needs will change.

After a bobbed deuce-1/2 I really liked the ROKON with their trailer. A true 4-season vehicle.

Of course there are different models. Some of you may like the Mototractor or Hunter models. I know there are/were a few owners here on NES.

Meh.
I live in MA, own guns, and most idiots down here don't..So when the SHTF I'll just use my guns to rob, loot and plunder all the yuppies andt Antis' food and goods.. and I'll probably live much MUCH better and more comfortably than I'm living now.

Just sayin' [emoji3]

limited time, but cheap on gas, and goes anywhere. You could eat your ride if you needed.

True, unless you had a couple of two seaters. But think back to the last time you were driving in say, a blizzard with heavy traffic, say during the work commute. Remember how slow the line moved, but for the most part, everyone stopped at the red lights and *mostly* didn't bash people out of the way. Now picture EVERYONE on the road, starving, frantic and absolutely determined to get through no matter what stands in their way.

If I can rise above that, it just seems SO much safer... Of course, weather, available fuel and payload are all factors. But who knows WHAT the disaster (or even IF) will be?

They're only little!

I'm glad you are just planning for you. If you had young children, scooters would work, but not ultralights.

You stole my plan!

Be careful with whom you decide to try that course of action, or you might find yourself shot in the face.

8K for the bike and 1.3K for the trailer. Ouch!!

I watched a few of there videos and looked at their site and the construction of these bikes seems low? For that price I'd figure you'd get a heavy duty bike but these bikes are made from thin tubing. Not something I'd trust for a SHTF situation. 7hp Kohler motor. A Honda enduro 650 is about 60HP for around the same price. For what they charge I think you can come up with a lot better choice.

I love the Eagles!!

They were pretty fantastic in how they were designed. You could switch out the center section for however you wanted to outfit the bird. Actually looked like it might've been something that could've been reality someday.

I think something with 4wd and enough clearance to cross one tire over train tracks could get you far and fast , but not too comfortably. I will need to check my trackers width, and clearance with some 31s
