586 L comp issues

Some people back off the strain screw intentionally to get a lighter double action pull. It's quick, easy, reversible and costs nothing. The down side is it may only be reliable with soft primers like Federal.

The other downside is that there's no locking it to a given loosened position. Once loose, it will drift out over time, gradually reducing tension. Replacements are $1.99, so once you find the right length experimentally, you can buy a replacement and shorten it so that the replacement will deliver the same tension when screwed all the way in. Still reversible, still pretty cheap, but more stable and easier to maintain.
