We were "responsible" for creating the problems in Iran and Iraq as well. IIRC, it was GHWB that was part of the team installing Saaaadam into power.

When you are dealing with all these factions, picking the least-worst is the best you are going to do. Did Sadam kill tens of thousands of Iraqi's during his reign? Yes. Would some other warlord have done so? ABSOLUTELY! So now it's picking a warlord based on what it will get us.

Of course, why isn't this the "fault" of the people of Rhodesia, Iraq or Iran??? I mean, THEY are the ones that get to have a choice, by vote or by force. It would be like saying we put the Castros in power for crying out loud. We started 250 years ago with crappy leadership in the Colonies. We took over. We made it our own. Bam. Done.

But African countries have a history of not really getting involved. Much like Greeks have a history of looking to the State to take care of them or Germans of taking things over or Scots for just arguing and wrastlin. It's almost DNA. (Read an interesting paper regarding Scot heritage and the Hatfield/McCoy feud. Fascinating stuff. Took the people out of the argumentative environment and they STILL came to bloodshed 5,000 miles away.)

DNA changes or dies off. French used to be the most militant bunch of *******s (less gay than Spanish) Over half of military terms have French origin. Hard to tell this now. Also French used to be Catholic and white.
