So it was going to be a beautiful day. I picked up my father's day gift of new XS Big Dot sights and was eager and ready to install them. I placed the slide in my vise and merrily tapped out the rear sight and replaced it without issue. The front sight post presented a small struggle but out it came nonetheless. I followed the instructions: deburred the dovetail, de-greased it, filed the base of the new sight until it fit halfway and fitted it before removing and adding the thread locker. That is when it went to shit.
About 3mm or 4mm from the center it completely seized. I abandoned the plastic rod they provide for a brass rod to no avail. I tried to tap it out. When the smoke cleared and the dust settled, I was left with the front sight in the same place, a badly beaten brass rod and the steel edges of the sight's dovetail marred. WTF.
