I finally acquired a few pre-ban AR mags (30 rounders). The bodies are in great shape, but the springs are beat and they have the old black followers. I was looking at replacement spring/follower/base pad kits from Brownells and it seems there are two kinds of mag springs, chrome silicon or stainless steel.

Can anyone provide any info as to the differences between them? Is one better? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

You can't go wrong either way, IMO.

The chrome silicon springs last longer. The stainless springs are what's now used in the GI mags and have been for about 20 + years now (?). The chrome silicon springs have a greater chance of rusting under the same conditions as the stainless springs. So it comes down to longer lasting with the possibility of rust or not as long lasting, still with the possibility of rust.

As for followers, Magpul self leveling without a doubt.
