where to find a 5.5 inch AR compensator?

Im sure this has been covered before but I couldnt locate it in a search.

I want to do an AR build and use a 11.5 inch barrel and a 5.5 inch compensator for no other reason than I like the look

I have a couple of questions.

Is this now a 16inch (legal) barrel provided I weld the compensator on?

If it is legal where do I find a 5.5 inch compensator? I have found 5.5 flash hiders but it is my understanding that it needs to be something other than a flash hider in MA.

Model 1 Sales builds ban compliant uppers with the 5.5 compensators. They probably sell them separately too. Yes, it could make a 11.5 inch barrel (otherwise subject to NFA) a 17 inch barrel and thus legal for a plain old rifle.

I have two of those uppers, one is all Bushmaster, the other is an Armalite upper/ Bushmaster barrel. If you are interested in one let me know.

Just for accuracies sake (and maybe the ability to run a mid length gas system, not sure if this will inhibit that), they make some "fake" 5.5 inch comps that basically screw on backwards, so the sheath covers the barrel but the last inch or so is the only actual part after the muzzle.

Edit: Not sure if that is a BATF classified flash hider or comp so you may want to shoot them an email if you are considering it.

I have not found any ban compliant muzzle devices in the 5" or 5.5" they have all been flash hiders. The only way I have been able to make the 11.5" and 10.5" barrels non-SBR 16" or longer is to pin and weld a fake supressor.
