I got my LTC after Newtown, so ammo prices are looking good to me these days: $13.99-14.99 for 50 rounds of 9mm fmj at a local gun store.

BUT, what did it used to cost?

I'm also curious because hollow point pricing hasn't dropped much if at all, there's just more of it. What was/is good pricing for hollow points?

22 LR isn't available, but what did that cost pre-Obama? Again, I'm ignorant because I'm late to the game.

Thanks,
Tony

I'm a relative newb too actually. Got my LTC RIGHT before Newtown, like a week before.

Minimags were available everywhere, $38 for a brick.
I have older 22LR I've gotten from people, the bricks are stamped like $17.99. Winchester Super X.

You are going to get sick.

Don't recall exactly when but in 2000-2004 timespan, both WM and Dickless were selling WWB/Rem 9mm FMJ (brass cased) for $8.99/100. I remember my distaste when it went to $9.99/100.

Bulk .22LR HV was ~$13/550 at WM as I recall.

Before the president's second election prices had gone back a bit.

9mm FMJ was about $10-12 for Blazer, WWB, etc.

Also you could often get case discounts.

Most of my ammo was bought long enough ago to make me cry when I see a price tag on it as replacing it these days is at least half again for FMJ and two to three times the price for self defense ammo.

Pre-Newtown it was possible to get brass cased 9mm below $10 online. I remember buying Blazer 22LR at $15-$18 per 525 box.
That's 2010-2012 prices, in 2009 ammo was scarce and expensive.
You can get decent price on HP ammo only if you buy 50 rd boxes (often marketed as LE use), 20 rd boxes are a rip off.

When Lynne (Mod) ran a women-only class at Mansfield F&G (guess it was 2006) some of us guys headed off to a local FFL where I bought ~500 .45ACP brass FMJ for $9.75/box!

I bought 4 tubs of South African 5.56 for about $.05 a round..2700 rounds a tub I believe. $9.00 for 100 rds 9mm WWB.

500 Rounds of xm193 was about $60.00 at Rileys and $95 for the same thing at 4$easons.

Want me to go on ?[smile]

My benchmark were were time when you could go to Dick(less) and during their semi-routine sales get the 9mm Rem/UMC for $5.99/50, and .45 was $8.99/50.

I used to buy CCI Blazer 22lr by the case at Four Seasons on sale for 13 bucks a brick of 550. 9MM was easily had for about 10 bucks a box. 45 was $100 for 250. The biggest change is not price but availability. There was never an issue, if you wanted to buy some everyone had it. It is getting better with everything but .22. You can find 9MM for 10-12 a box online.

I have some cases of 7.62X39 (1000 rounds) with the prices still written on them in magic marker. $79 and that was gunshow pricing. I have a crate (1260 rounds) of South African (one of the best surplus rounds out there) 7.62X51 that I paid $229 for.

880 rd cases of Czech 7.62x54R for $68

340 Romanian 8mm Mauser for $99 shipped from aimsurplus.

50 rds PMC 30 Carbine for $7.50... in California!

I have a crate of South African 762x39 brass cased in battle packs I bought a while ago for a good price..South Africa made good ammo.

The last 9mm I purchased was $200 shipped to my door. The last .22 I got was $115 and I'm down to about 3 bricks in the last case.

This was per CASE! 1000 rounds of 9mm, and 5000 of CCI standard velocity .22 [shocked]

Yea, I stocked up before all of the madness.

from ~2010-newtown,

22lr was ~20 for a 500-550 brick at wally world and most LGS

federal 5.56 was $38/100 at FS, 160 for a 420 ammo can
7.62x39 russian was 5/20 at most LGS and Wally world

What time? If we're talking pre sandy hook, the prices now aren't that much worse when you add in the material cost inflations that have gone on, with the exception of .22 LR.

JHP/defense ammo has gotten shittier in pricing but some of this is because the LE overruns seem to have dried up (places like Riley's dont even carry 50 round boxes of GDHPs anymore). Then again this is hard to measure because most gun shops have JHP ammo marked up to a level that is approaching full retard, in those shitty 20 round boxes. (admittedly, the distributors rape the shops on these too, and then more rape is added on top. )

If we're talking 2004, a box of good 9mm cost like $7 or so in bulk. A box of 124 gr +P gold dots (50 rounds) was like $20. [laugh] If you think we'll ever see anything like those days ever again, you're dreaming. We'll never see Pre-Obamascare 1 prices ever again, either.

The last time I bought 22LR was from the CMP, I think it was $84 for 5000 rounds.

10,000 plus shipping ran me about $190

Wolf steel case .223 and 7.62x39 ran me about $125 / 1000 rounds

and yes, Walmart 9mm value packs were $8 or $9 per 100

When Reagan was president, they used to hand us a box of 22lr every morning as we got off the school bus for free. We used to be able to order machine guns from the Montgomery Wards Christmas catalog and have it mailed in 12-14 weeks to our door. One time an attack helicopter feel right out of the sky and landed on our lawn with a big sign on it that said "Thanks- your government."

I know that commodity prices are up now from "pre-panic" prices, how much room do you guys think that ammo has left to fall given the increase in material costs? I recently bought some 9mm brass cased FMJ for $13 at walmart, which is cheaper than I had seen it before, so I started to wonder how much more room it had to drop. I'd certainly like to see bricks of 22LR get to $20 or so :D

Just got 9mm shipped for $190/1000 [smile] It's coming back down but I don't think we will ever see $9 / 100 again. Maybe 17-18 per 100 with good sale prices.
