Have found several chemical bluing solutions which do a pretty good job on repairs, etc. However they leave a dull blue finish. Is there any way to make the finish shine? I assume some form of buffing? Any suggestions would be welcomed.

The metal must be polished prior to bluing. Cold bluing doesn't seem to work as well on polished metal though.

For cold bluing, I've used several coats of cold bluing and then buffed with 0000 grade steel wool. It gave me a pretty good shine. Definately not as good as hot bluing, but it works in a pinch. Like mentioned before, don't polish before cold bluing but make sure that the metal has been thoroughly cleaned and is free from any oil, fingerprints, etc.
