What did you do in the reloading room recently?

I'm ogling that MP Hollow point mold again. So tempting. What I'm really wanting is a mold that's like a factory jacketed RN.
None of the ones I look at have the right ogive profile tho and I don't want a lube groove either.

9mm 125s for the HPs.
Same for the RN solids. The Lee mold ogive is too round. I have issues with loading to specified COAL and have to shorten so they chamber.
Get the MP 360-125 or whatever it is. Very slim nose profile. Feed amazing. Lee moulds are wide at the waist.

That’s the one. I prefer 4 cavity. Not that much more money.
Drops about 130 with the penta pin.
It had a reduced nose diameter so it works will in short tight throats. Like CZ

1.135"-1.145" OAL. I actually haven't run 5.9g over the chrono, but 5.8g was running just under 1100 fps out of a 4" barrel.

Same everything but with 6.4g of Power Pistol runs about 1160 - 1190 fps and I was kind of chasing that.

Here are my last several loads. Sorry for the cut and paste formatting issue but you'll get the idea:

Okay this is out of a completely different pistol with a shorter 3.4" barrel than what I normally run. But I had a chance to put 5 of the 5.9g CFE Pistol load with 115g FMJ over a chrono today with a rest on a bench and got this:

Average 1163, SD 21, high 1185, low 1129, ES 56 group size 1.1" at 30 feet

I also had a chance to run 5 of the pulled 124g HST bullets out of the same 3.4" barrel also off a bench rest and this was interesting:
124g Federal HST bullets seated to 1.100", 5.5g Power Pistol, CCI #500, Blazer brass.
Average 1037, SD 1, high 1039, low 1036, ES 3 group size 0.7" at 30 feet for 4 but then I flinched and turned it into a 1.6" group.

For comparison, I ran 2 factory loaded Federal HST 124g 9mm standard pressure and got 1098 and 1144 fps.

The handload 124g HSTs also did a nice job emptying some half gallon plastic bottles full of water.

Ahh the process, i forgot about the time involved in case prep! Luckily I got myself an automated press but I gotta feed it and take care of it like a child
Figured I’d get back into it with some LC 5.56 I have all the components to put together a case on hand

After I get though some of these I plan on working up some cowboy loads for my 1894 30-30

Not excited about component hunting.

30-30 is easy for components. That cartridge shines with lead so you’re spending $$$ on bullets. Go to any of the normal suppliers and grab some gas checked 170+ grain bullets and you’ll be happy. .310” or so.

I have some 150 grain truncated copper plated bullets
A pile of good brass
Trying to do some homework on a pistol powder I can use between those and 9 mm

Do you think I need a gas check with a plated bullet?

I don’t personally shoot those matches but yes, Volusia runs 5-7 steel challenge and 3-5 USPSA matches a week. We are owned by a competitive USPSA shooter and about half our bays are setup for competition only.

FWIW, we also have a 900y rifle range. =}

New Smyrna Beach, FL. Approximately 3 hours 20 minutes from my house.

I didn't know that's where you were at now. I've been to Volusia county gun club twice. It's a great facility. Manny and Gorka do a great job of running that place.

"She shook her head [yes], turned and walked away."

Couple months ago, we're sitting on the couch watching a movie, and the wife in the movie's bitching at the husband, saying (more or less), "yeah, I'll say blah, blah, blah, you'll pretend to listen and at the end you'll just do whatever you want to do".

My wife looks at me, laughs, and says "that's you, that's exactly what you f***ing do because you're Allen". I just laughed, because it's true.

She's right. We have conversations, I think about what she's said/saying; then I do whatever I want to. Sometimes it means that I change my mind because of what she said - sometimes not. Sometimes there are consequences.

So, this is just - if I decide to go shooting at Volusia when I'm in the keys - I'm gonna do it. It'll be a logistics question.

I loaded some more of the 115g FMJ with CFE Pistol, but changed to CCI 500 primers, and seated the bullets just a little bit longer to 1.145" just shy of them touching the rifling. At 1.150" or longer the rounds would lightly stick in the chamber when I dropped them in and I'd have to pry them out with a fingernail vs them just dropping out when I tipped the barrel back.

5 over the chrono:
1102 1128 1135 1115 1131

Average 1122, SD 14, high 1135, low 1102, ES 33

Perfect function, decent accuracy considering it's a tiny little carry gun, but I might dial the powder charge back a little bit. The primers are flowing back into the firing pin channel a little bit more than I want to see.

I tried to find my chrono data from the load I mentioned, but I think it's lost with my old laptop. I know it was out of my G34 which has a 5.3" barrel. I checked the recent Hornady reloading manual and they have the CFE pistol max charge at 5.8 gns with an OAL of 1.1" for the RN projectile.
