I am 39 kinda out of shape but always wanted to be a cop. I just got invited to take the pt test for umass police. Anyone have experience with them or can give advice? Idk if I want to do it at my age anymore or if it's worth it on today's world.

No matter how old you get they all stay the sameGotta love the UMass payroll numbers. $1M salary for assistant basketball coach. Wonder how much their cops make?
You'll want to be in shape for a number of obvious reasons.

Having worked for a small town as well as BC PD (aux with no police powers at BC, working the dorms and football games), I'll say that there is a world of difference between the two jobs. At a college, your real job is to protect the kids from their own and other's stupid acts, not to enforce "law". A good example was the night a drunk and very belligerent kid came into the dorm with his buddy and assaulted two of our aux. officers. I called for backup and a burly Sgt. (FT with arrest powers) responded. The kid assaulted the Sgt. The Sgt. convinced the kid's buddy to take him off the campus to avoid arrest. On the street, the kid would have been arrested after getting "restrained" with force.I had a buddy that worked for UMASS in Worcester. He didn’t have to go to the academy through them as he already had his certificate. It’s not a great job mainly because of all the college brats you have to eat shit from.
Staties have a cutoff age of 34I would try state police or if a Boston resident try for bpd. At least there’s a faster turnaround for not being a new guy. You can work up the ladder a lot faster.
Definitely start dieting. PT, I would start with running, push ups, sit ups, burpees and planking. Do not half ass it, people think that the academy will train you. if, they see you out of shape or out of cadence then they will hammer you for it.

No, they're just lowering the scores to get in now. Guy I know said the highest score in the last batch to graduate was something like 76My apologies, I thought they moved the age up since they are hurting for numbers
