I think I am missing the point. We give the Taliban back 5 people who are clearly going to go significantly out of their way to **** with the West in the short term only to get back a soldier who is of no importance to anything just so we can execute him?

We release enemies who will attack, kill and hurt us and our friends just so we can kill a misguided insignificant soldier?

Yes, point missed. I don't get it.

Slovik was executed as an example because the Army needed an example r desertions were getting out of hand. Marshal, Eisebhower and the top brass agreed they needed someone to make an example of, and Slovik had plenty of opportunity along the way em to return to duty.

I don't know where Corporal Bensdad is going with this. Executing Bergdahl will not send a message to the troops because mass desertions have not been a major issue in our presenting wars. This whole thing is a mess. We promote the guy while in captivity and apparently he was held in captivity in a cage. We exchange him for 5 hard core terrorists and now we try and execute him. Doesn't make sense to me either, but like yourself Dench I was never a Corporal of Marines and it's said that corporals have a mind of their own, wasn't there some Austrian dude who had been a corporal in some kind of outfit, who 70-80 years ago was big time in to executing people? Didn't read the whole thread to see if this was mentioned but it seems to me the smart thing to do would have been to let the terrorists keep him and rack up food bills til they cut off his head. Win for everyone except the guys who didn't come back from the patrols looking for him.
 
I spoke about this with a family member who is serving our country in a branch that has done some good work over there. Let's just say that he tells people is a crustacean rehab counselor. [wink]

He said that whatever we do to Bergdahl is minor compared to the pounding that he took for five-odd years. Leave it to your imagination, but Bergdahl would be very understanding of what it is like to be a woman.

And the deal with Qatar is to hold and monitor them for 1 yr. The year is up in May 2015. Any doubt they go back to the battle?
 
I'm thinking the deal Obama is cutting with Iran is worse than what we've heard, so charging Bergdahl this week will turn the focus on him. The charge was probably been written months ago and they just wanted to pick a time where it benefits them.

We know that deal with Iran is terrible. I think many of the Dems are going to go ape sh1t if they make a deal. Especially the ones that are strong supporters of israel. They don't like obama to begin with and they don't want the bad deal as obama is leaving.

Didn't you get a note from obozo thinking you for the tax money for the deal. I don't know for a fact there is a money deal but I think it's HIGHLY likely.

Every time I hear someone mention Obama is "leaving" or that his term ends "soon" , I actually cringe...cuz the dirtbag has almost two years left until January 20th, 2017 (that's SEVENTEEN, and it's currently only March of FIFTEEN)...
I just cringe thinking of how much MORE damage can be done in the next 22 MONTHS by this piece of sh*t (and I've never even thought of using this term to describe the president of the United States - ever- in my 50-plus years on earth but this piece of SH*T is worthy of the term. Actually pales compared to some of the terms I've used to describe him). And I just hope and pray a Supreme Court justice doesn't croak, cuz this Kenyan Islamic Jihadist would appoint someone like friggin Deval Patrick for the bench if given the opportunity.

He trades terrorists for Bergdahl but won't insist Iran return the 4 Americans languishing in their prisons, including a US Marine. Yep. While they are cutting deals with Iran over nuclear capabilities, not a peep about American citizen and former US Marine Amir Hekmati who is being imprisoned in Iran for nonsense made up charges. Nothing.

Related, in an ironic example, the Iran high court actually overturned his sentence in part. How bad does that make our courts look when it comes to similar situations here?

Captian Greg Van Patten with the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News Thursday that the county’s marijuana eradication team encountered Bergdahl on Tuesday while serving a search warrant on a home in Redwood City, Calif.....

...An Army spokeswoman, Cynthia O. Smith, confirmed to Fox News that Bergdahl was picked up in California.

"U.S. Army North was contacted by the Mendocino County Sheriff's office on July 21 regarding an incident within their jurisdiction in which SGT Bowe Bergdahl was present,” Smith said.

“SGT Bergdahl was on authorized leave in California at that time. He was not arrested and has returned to his duty station at Fort Sam Houston He has not been charged with any crime involving his time on leave,” she added.

Van Patten said the marijuana eradication team discovered 180 mature plants being grown outdoors,.....

Isn't he still on active duty? I have zero military experience but what happens to a soldier found at the scene of a crime?
