SW 1911PD front sight adjustment

M

MACGYVR

Its brand new out of the box and the front site is not centered in the dovetail. Its off to the right about 1 oclock.

Firing it results in all shots (4" group) to the lower left of the target. Changing aim from center to top right corner of paper places all shots in the center (4" group).

Dealer says that if I am up to it I can use a brass drift to tap it and move it to the center or send it back to Smith who will mke it all right.

Looking for your suggestions as to the ease of moving it and speed of Smith service.

I am pretty handy with tools but I don't want to mess up a $1000 gun.

its easy

remove the slide and all the inards. place the slide in a vice, use a paint
stir stick on each side to avoid damage to the slide. mark the slide and
the sight where you want it to line up.

mount the slide as low as possible in the vice, works better this way.

i've taken them out and replaced them with fiber optic.

as for the punch, you can grind a brass rod to fit you application,
you don't need anything fancy..

Thanks for all the advice. I read the linked posts and it scared the crap out of me. Sending it to SW so they can fix it. It is their problem after all.
