Just a tease .
I'm hoping my rivets and pins come in this week .
It's 54r btw. I got a free barrel from a company after the prexis one failed . Prexis sent me a replacement for my full size build.
But this other company that hates them sent me one free of charge . I wasn't expecting it so I didn't have the rivets on order .
I brought it to work Friday and chopped it down to ak length then turned it.

This carbine going to be a mutt .

Cold steel 80% receiver.
Bulgarian 74 buttstock , hand guards and grip.
Romanian 47 rear trunnion milled to fit 1.5mm receiver(done by me)
Russian gas tube.
Hungarian front sight .
Yugo front trunnion m70

Romanian psl bolt/carrier and trigger.

Ak builder ak length piston .

I have a amd 65 break for now.

Looks like an interesting build, are you cutting the mag well to take psl mags?

It's a psl/rpk 80% receiver. I had to cut all the holes.
If you look at the rear you can see the rear plates I had to make to work with a normal stock vs the curved ones for the thumb hole.
A psl receiver is the same length as a ak/rpk but the trigger and grip are shifted back. The plates that are welded on allow you to move the trunnion to the rear.

Picked this up at an online auction. Hungarian SA-85M (MAK-90) unfired came in original box with sling. looks to be made around 91-92 all said and done for less than $700

Nice looking piece, I just picked up my second Mak this past week for $675. I'm going to get both of them up to my specs soon, I can't wait to rid myself of these thumbhole stocks!

That'll be pretty cool when you finish that. Ill be watching this thread. I'm interested in building an ak probably in 7.62x39 but need to do a lot of research on building it. Do you reccomended getting an 80% lower and milling it out or one of the nodaks if you can find them? I work in a machine shop as well.

You can buy 80 flats. pre bents that need rails welded in , trigger pin holes added . And trigger hole added. Mag well is cut on some .
There's a few different types of 80% of Ak's out there. Some have the rails welded and need all the holes cut and drilled.

Stay away from cold steel they take a lot of tweaking etc. Unless your dead set on building a ak with out a serial or you got a odd ball kit so your stuck with a 80%. If I can borrow a bending jig I might buy the ak builder 9mm flat if I ever get a couple of 74 kits.
I'd go with a nordaks that dose not have the rivet holes drilled.

Nordaks are awesome.
For 80% I'd go with a polish pre bent.
Those need the rails welded in and the trigger pins/trigger hole/pistol hole taken care of.
There's one company that comes with a template glued on and rails welded in . But there allways sold out and cost more then a nordak.
Welding the rails are the hardest part on eyes.

Only reason I got a 80% cause I couldn't find a psl receiver. Gave up On waiting for it and found a Romanian 2nd receiver . Built my psl on that . Sucked cause the scope rail wasn't Fully milled . Was tough making a jig to cut the dovetail.

Then the 80% showed up so I started collecting parts to make a carbine psl.

My two psl's awww ...
I'm just waiting in my barrel pins , sight block/gas block etc pins. I'll thread the muzzle when I have cash for a die or if some one wants to lend me one.
Gas block is drilled and tapped for a set screw so I can adjust the gas.

If you are just looking for the standard M14x1LH die, I have one you can borrow. I'm in Westford if you want to 'come and take it'.

Nice!

Details on the build?

It's a milled assault weapons of Ohio receiver

I used a nice clean yugo m70 parts kit

It's a used yugo barrel that I bought from center fire systems for $20

G2 trigger pack and a hogue grip

This thing cycles like butter and can hit the crap out of a 10" steel plate at 200yds standing kalashkid can attest to this

Im so freaking pumped, my Mak is now the way I like it.

922r compliant and good to go, cant wait to get to the range with this!

A HUGE thank You to warwickben for his assistance, no way I woulda been able to do this by myself, cheers to you my friend [cheers]

One thing to keep in mind, make sure you have all the neccesary hardware. I bought what I thought was a complete Underfolder set up from Sportsmans guide and ofcourse Me being a Noob I was missing the Rear Trunnion and Rivets, all in all it was definately worth the time and effort.

Here are a few more pics, not the best AK Clone in this thread but Im still really proud to own this.

Judging by this thread, Ben should have his Member signature changed to AK-Builder. [laugh]
