Any shops in the Boston, metro west or South shore area of Massachusetts that take trades? All the ones I've shopped at will sell you a gun but won't take a trade-in. they want you to buy the gun and leave yours on consignment.

Four Seasons will take trades. But realize that you will get far below retail value for your trade. You would be far better off to sell your gun here in the classifieds in a private sale. If you don't want to do a private sale, you would still probably be better off selling on consignment than selling it to the gun store. They make money by buying wholesale and selling retail.

Industry typically pays ~50% of market value on a straight-out purchase. Don't know how much more they will pay you for a trade. Consignment usually nets you 75-80% of market value. Selling on NES will usually net you 90-100% of market value . . . and you can still do the transfer at an FFL if you don't like doing true FTF transfers.

Another thing to keep in mind, if you sell it in the classifieds at a reasonable discount, you'll do better than selling it at a shop. Consider this. Let's say you had a Sig 229 in .40 in good condition. At a good used price it would go for $700 at a GS. The store will give you, say $300-$400 for it (that's generous). But if you sold it here for,say 575, you'd might sell it right away and still make more money than you would from a store, even though it's less than market value. Either way, you have nothing to loose by trying while you're making up your mind.

food for thought.
