She's "Gun-free" in Chelsea.... (and deathly afraid)...

I work at a small business with about 10 employees and the owner has his LTC but doesn't carry. One of our part time guys is also a full time police officer. I always carried at work and the LEO occasionally carried. A third guy is very knowledgeable about firearms and used to shoot with his father a lot but let his FID lapse while he was in college. A fourth guy is from down south, has been hunting, and wants his LTC but his fiance is anti. Two other staff members are neutral/mildly interested in keeping a firearm at home "just in case" and had no problems with the rest of us carrying. A few months ago one of the other male employees who always creates tons of drama decided that no one should be allowed to carry at work so he threatened to quit unless the rest of us were told we couldn't carry anymore. The owner kowtowed down to him and now none of us are allowed to carry there. I now leave my firearm in the car and I carry pepper spray clipped to one pocket and a Spyderco Endura clipped to the other pocket. I'm also half-heartedly looking for a new job.

Which begs the question, why didn't the rest of you tell the boss you would all quit since he's letting some bed wetting drama queen dictate company policy?

This is a case where the employees , especially the females, gang up on management and demand escorts if they insist on their retarded policies.
We are only defenseless because of your policies. now do something before someone gets hurt or worst and you end up looking at the business end of one hell of a lawsuit.
My ex sister in law finally quit her management job at wally world when they tried to transfer her to the Lynn store.
I've never been there but according to what she told me, the employees walking to their cars after closing said a prayer and double checked their will before trying to make it to their cars.
Wally World's attitude was meh, we can always hire more just like you.

A couple of people suggested checking the gun at the metal detectors. Bad idea. I worked security at a hospital when I was 18-20. Most of the guys I worked with with upstanding guys, but not all of them. You do NOT want to be handing over your gun to some punk kid making peanuts. Especially if he might misplace it and sell it to the same low life that will be waiting in the parking lot.

I like the pepper spray in the fake can options. Also, Cold Steel makes a number of dagger's made of zytel, which should not trigger a metal detector. There's a couple on Amazon.

tell her to put in writing a request for secure parking or a security detail to walk her to her vehicle every night. It may do nothing or it may do something.

Yep! The women could also write a letter (think class action) en masse stating that they believe that the actions of the employer is putting the employees, especially the female employees, in harms way via the policies surrounding how an employee cannot defend themselves by way of prohibiting the means to do so.
Or words to that effect.
Stay safe however you see fit and good luck
Brian

Every women in that building should be asking to be escorted to their car. Every single night.

If she's a nurse and they have MNA representation, she could definitely bring it up to them.

ETA: brush-dagger is a great idea, but is it considered a dagger?

I mean how well do they search her? G42 shouldn't set off the detectors if you strip it and break it up into segments. Bullets in the change purse slide maybe with brushes or feminine products. No dude making 11 bucks an hour sticking his hand in there. The frame can ride in a cheapo uncle mikes and that should get her through.... So I've heard anyways

Do they not have security? There's nobody available to escort her out? I'm guessing they do, otherwise who is running the metal detectors?
But the car is parked a block and a half away at what they call the "adjacent" garage. Guards won't/can't leave their areas...Not to mention I was at a building in downtown Boston just this afternoon, also had detectors...and "guards"...The (all three) guards were literally useless....(Think "Fat Albert" with a "Yo, man, I don't be gives a f*ck, just wanna be cashin' dat paycheck" attitude)

I'm wondering how this thread for to page 8 without somebody asking for pics.

For serious though. This crap needs to stop. When does the employer or the state assume the risk for requiring people to divest themselves of the ability to defend themselves?

How is this actually legal or even moral.

Bolt a lock box into the trunk and keep an inexpensive but functional revolver locked in the box to retrieve once she is released from work.
Or...buy one of those hair brushes that has a polymer shiv built in... better than urine if she's attacked.

Find a better way to carry. I carried for years at a company with a no weapons of any kind written policy.

"Find a better way to carry"....thru a metal detector? ....I'm all ears, waiting for a fail-safe idea as to how to carry a gun thru a metaldetector, without setting it off, losing her job etc

Reminder: We're talking about the Commonwealth of MA...(or CommonPuke of LiberChusetts, to use the phrase that I years ago coined and trademarked here at NES) [angry]

did you say she needed to go thru a metal detector each day at work? Tell her to find a better place to work!

well there is no law against a flashing tactical flashlight....those things are very disorienting if bright enough. Then some sort of polymer or ceramic knife that will not ding the metal detector.

Instead of being all ears learn to read. That was in response to the post I quoted. Not the OP. Not sure how I could have made it any clearer than quoting what I was responding to.

Beep.

Spongebob Squarebadge, if he's feeling ambitious, wands her. Wand beeps near her appendix where her gun is.

She gets flustered, tells Spongebob Squarebadge to keep his hands off her, maybe something about a feminine medical device or something awkward. Makes $10/hr Squarebadge feel REALLY awkward and desperate for her to just move on.

Spongebob Squarebadge and anyone he works with just smiles and nods at her every time she walks through the beeping metal detector in the future.

And if we're just talking a can of OC, it doesn't set off metal detectors. Not even a MK-IV sized can.

Will a run of the mill metal detector find a chunk of aluminum? Test the theory by putting a handgun sized chunk of aluminum with some scrap brass and lead fishing weights.

Then but or build a handgun constructed of aluminum.

There probably are some steel parts in it, but less.

I'm lucky. I live in rural N.H. and carry everyday in this relatively crime-free place and can't imagine not being able to do so. Before I retired I worked in Mass.
and obviously couldn't carry. Despite nothing, ever, I was anxious every day. So also can't imagine how the OP's best friend's wife must feel. So a thought, and I don't want to think it through, mightn't there be a place for volunteer escorts who got "paid" via some sort of barter system? Better would be a commercial venture but can't even imagine the legal hurdles. Time wise think along the lines of school bus drivers, certainly not full time positions, but positions nonetheless.

You can buy one of those ceramic knives at any dept store. Other options are a rape whistle and vagina holster.

Either I missed something important or...
How does that help with the walk from the door at the building to the car? Then how does it help while at the car fumbling with getting it open.

ok...you are right. then restrict it to those individuals who chose to posses without buying their rights to posses back from the government.

To me,what he's saying is that people without lisences are constitutional carriers. I have zero problem with that. I only have a problem if they steal something, hurt someone or damage property.
