I know I'm not the only one who does this so I figured I'd try and find out why.
Ever wonder why we collectors torture ourselves by oppening e mail New Stuff listings, checking Rifle of the Day posts, and seeing what new goodies select distributors and dealers have gotten in when there is no chance in hell of having the extra cash to buy something if you really wanted it? [crying]
Every day I have a list of links I check whether I have the cash or not. Oddly enough on the days when I'm broke and find nothing, I feel a little disappointed even though I wouldn't have been able to buy something if I wanted to. Then when I do find something, I feel even worse.
Of course the days when I have money to burn I can't even find a cheap .22 to interest me.[rolleyes]
So why did I look at picture after picture of Argentine Sistema Colt Model 1927 pistols that were selling for under $400 when I didn't have the cash to buy them? Whats even worse is I'm glad they're sold out and gone because now I don't have to wonder what kind of wheeling and dealing I'd have to do to have afforded one.

Get the CZ82 now!!!!! I ordered another one and i'm waiting for the second batch to arrive............

I know the feeling too I'm strapped for $$ right now but i had to do it anyway. I missed out before so many times. Its tough to sit on the sidelines and watch these sales and deals fly by till they sell out.

You are not alone. It is comforting to read that you did exactly the same thing that I did yesterday, right down to checking all of those Sistemas out. I find that I look no matter what my cash position because you never know what you will see. If you see the right thing it is amazing what a determined collector will pull off to get it done!

I really wanted one of the Sistemas, but by the time the list was posted, I had to run out the door to Town Meeting. When I got back, they had all been sold.

However today I scored 2 Nagant revolvers. [grin]

Come on! If you really, really, really wanted it, you would have got it anyway. Somehow, you'd find a way. So I think, deep down, it really wasn't that important to you.

Just let xxxxxxx list a East German SKS and we'll see what happens....

Nope, it was a time issue. Just ran out of same. I had been refreshing the webpage for 1/2 the day since I received the Email . . . no info until I went to head out the door.

This boat is getting crowded.. i feel your pain.
I can browse listings for hours at end knowing there is no way in my budget but I cannot help the urge.

I have no budget but when REALLY tempted, I drag out the CC.

The thing that makes me wonder most about why I do things, is when I look at flyers and email stuff from companies that won't ship anything to me because I live behind the Iron Curtain. Why I continue to look and get mad everytime I do, I can't figure. Why do I torture myself that way?

It's the whole forbidden fruit thing. You wanted it because you knew you couldn't have it.

I've got about $7000 worth of projects I'd like to do this summer. That doesn't stop me from looking at the links I go to everyday.

With your handle you of all people should know that Military Surplus is a virus for which there is no cure. You can only treat the symptoms by purchasing anther milsurp. Though occasionally you can tame the beast within by viewing gun porn in the classifeds.

Why do I get the feeling you're referring SPECIFICALLY to me with this post???

Even more specifically, because of the OVERWHELMING URGE I had to FIGHT WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING yesterday, upon receiving an e-mail from X, which showed a Colt 1917 in 95%+ condition right after a WWI-era 1911 in the greatest shape I've ever seen...

Right now it's doubly bad for me, because I'm still waiting for my permit to be renewed. So even if I had the cash I couldn't get anything...

[crying] [crying] [crying] [crying] [crying]

I saw that one.[grin]

As for an East German SKS... I'd be tempted to seduce rich older women for one of those.[laugh]
