rifled barreled shotguns

Are these sold as slugs only or could you use large or buck shot with some amount of accuracy and no damage to the barrel if you found the need to do so?

You'll get a "doughnut" pattern as the rifling will spin the shotcup.

At close range I doubt it'll make a difference though. YMMV.
