Found a barely to gently used pre-'98 Ruger P85 (9mm) for $300. Fits my wishes for an economical 9mm single/double action first handgun. Reviews and opinions from those with experience with this gun would be much appreciated.

great gun for what it is. not pretty, nothing special, pretty crude... but built like a tank, and will always go bang.
What animation? That's actual security footage of me at work. (I found it on the web.)Stoneypete, where did you get your picture/animation? That's hilarious.
P89 ?? I've got a P89 and was unaware of any recalls. Mine was bought in the time period {87-90} that you mentioned that is why you've got me wondering.Mike-Mike: became aware of the recall after the question was posted and will check. Don't believe the gun is that old (from what I understand the recall was on the originals from 1987-1990) but thanks for the heads up.
I wasn't sure if Ruger changed what they called it after they made a few minor changes. The P85 shown in the picture looks exactly like my P89 but mine is a blued version. I haven't shot mine in about 8-9 years.Armed Maine, we were talking about the P85. I don't know if there were or were not any recalls on the P89.
