Going to mount a red dot in the scout scope position on my rifle. The caliber is 7.62x39 and the rifle is for close to medium range stuff.

Should I get a 9.0 MOA Dot or 13.0 MOA Dot?

9MOA is going to almost completely cover a 200 yard target.

13 MOA is going almost completely cover a 150 yard target.

Might want to give the AK a little more credit than that and get something that you can put on a 300 yard target without covering it. (4 MOA - 5 MOA)

Typically by increasing the brightness the dot will appear even bigger if you want it bigger for closer range shooting, but you can't make a bigger one smaller.

Hmmm. I was looking into Trijicon's new RMR. There are 2 types. One is battery powered, the other uses tritium and fiber optics. I want the later one. The battery powered one is offered with either a 4 MOA or 8 MOA dot, the other is offered with a 9 MOA or 13 MOA. I don't know why. Do you think this sight is too small to be mounted above the gas tube? Is it offered with the larger dot specifically for being mounted farther from the eye, or is a 9MOA dot still rather big even with it mounted in a scout position?

I would look into the C-more or Jpoint, they will be alot cheaper

What type of rifle are you mounting it on? I almost purchased a Ruger Frontier rifle with the forward scope mount, but the 16.5" barrel was a bit too short for me, since my absolute favorite caliber is .308. I like the Scout rifle concept, though. The late Col. Jeff Cooper sure knew what he was talking about when he advocated this "all purpose" firearm.

I have only mounted cheap dots from wal mart, I bought all different sizes. then tried them. 90 day return policy. I have been able to sell the ones I didnt know for what I paid. No need to return. Mind you, I do not shoot the red dots often and DO NOT depend on them. I have them on my Ruger MIII, 10/22 bare bones model, and one on a ak dustcover rail POS set up. allthough for close in does so so. the larger ones where circles not dots.
