I was thinking of buying one of these gas piston kits for my m4(which still uses your standard front sight base)..only $200 or so, and turns your standard AR into a gas pistion rifle. Anyone have first hand expirience or anything good or bad to said about this particular type of kit?

I don't know about the Osprey Defense system? Have you heard good things?
Look at Adams Arms http://www.adamsarms.net/ I was with some guys in LA (like New Orleans) and they were trying to screw up several of the piston systems{Adams , Bushmaster, A couple of "off brands"...This one was the best of the retro fit kits. It is not that cheap, like $$399 or so (msrp is like $499). For $200 I'd worry about a gas piston system that costs the little, hell a normal bolt carrier group alone can cost that much.

the osprey one is nice because you can re-use your front sight base but i've never heard anything about it other than that. i'd be willing to give it a shot if i had a spare $200 but i'm with smitty in that it sure seems cheap.

edit: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=411583 that was about all i could really find. in a thread on THR one member said he had it and fired around 5k rounds without a serious cleaning or any failures. he didn't provide any more info than that though.
