Obama: AK-47s are for soldiers!

And 50% pay no taxes at all so what's the point? People that earn money shouldnt get to keep it because we have scum that needs more or won't work and pay taxes like the rest of us?

Of that 50% who don't pay taxes, around half of them don't pay because their income is too low (ie disabled, handicapped, or just lazy scum).

This is what the breakdown looks like to me:
25% of the population is either disabled or scum (weighted more heavily towards scum)
25% game the system to avoid paying taxes
30% of them are blue collar people doing tough jobs for **** pay
20% of them are the white collar upper-middle / upper class

I'm basically just deducing here given statistics we know... But it kind of seems that a disproportionate burden is placed on that 30% of people who do pay taxes but still have basically no money and no hope of upward social mobility. The tragedy is that the 30% usually doesn't seem to see it that way.

I'm pretty sure as a percentage of government income the 20% pay something like 80% and the 30% pay around 20%. Something along those lines anyway.

It seems almost perfectly equitable when you look at it that way, though it's still a bigger burden for someone making $50k/year to pay a % of their salary than it is for someone making 350k.

I think the most unsettling thing I get from this chart is that 50% of the population is making less than 30k/year... And I don't believe it's simply that 50% of Americans are lazy scum.

Why do I have a funny feeling you make $50k or less?

Why do I have a funny feeling you make $50k or less?

Touche, but so does ~70% of the rest of the USA (subtract the 25% scum to get ~45%).

Put a 50% tax on somebody making 200k/year and they'll still live comfortably. Put a 50% tax on somebody making 50k and they can no longer support a family.

It's not fair to tax the rich more, but the wealth gap in this country is ridiculous and getting worse. The rich continue to get richer and the middle class continues to disappear. I don't think the answer is to take more money from the rich and give it to the scum, but the status quo is not working.

It's not fair to tax the rich more

then why are you proposing this? Because it's not your money?

Your comments regarding that the "american dream is dead" and that "the rich are oppressing the goals of others" tells me that you are either:

1) a quitter
2) have a negative outlook on life as opposed to a "can do" attitude
3) or you are self entitled

either way: you are wrong. Hard work and a positive attitude is what made this country. It's attitudes like yours that are destroying it.

either way: you are wrong. Hard work and a positive attitude is what made this country. It's attitudes like yours that are destroying it.

I teach middle school kids in Brockton and tutor sometimes in towns like Wellesly, etc. The Brockton kids often have parents in that bottom 25%... On drugs, no education / don't see the importance of education, put no effort into parenting, or simply aren't in the picture at all. Even the kids who do well in their classes and work hard are still light years behind my Wellesley kids, and will have a very tough time getting into / affording college.

Meanwhile virtually no one drops out or fails the MCAS in Wellesley, and everyone goes to college and lands a decent job as long as they're willing to put in at least a little bit of effort.

Some people have the world handed to them on a platter and some have the deck stacked against them. You can overcome the odds, but odds are you won't.

Hard work and positive attitude made this country, but I'm pretty sure the potential for social mobility is less than it ever has been in the history of the US, and it continues to get worse, and your attitude can only go so far.

you, especially a teacher of the youth, should know better than to give up on the idea that work ethic and attitude can make a person great in their endeavors.

I have many peers at work who came from nothing. Friends in college (fraternity brothers at that) who were born into absolute shit-sandwhiches. Some from abusive drug infested homes, others from illegal immigrant parents that came here with nothing.

There are two common traits that all of these individuals had: hard work and a belief in themselves. They took risks (huge debt from college educations in "legit" fields.... not some bullshit social work or psychology undergrad degree) and gambled on themselves. Their wager? That they could work hard and make good use of a somewhat sound investment.

There are private businesses that are willing to lend you money for your schooling. There are also private businesses that are willing to lend you money to chase a dream (storefronts for retail, services, etc). All it takes is a good attitude and hard work. edit: and common sense- if you are risking the "farm" on a private business, you need to be realistic with your goals and aspirations. If risk isn't your forte? option A: get an education and go the "safe" route.

If people are happy without higher pay, then so be it. But to shoot down the american dream due to a quitter attitude fueled by a fictional belief that a wealth gap "keeps you down" is poor, poor form.

I am no teacher. I am impatient. But I have a belief that people make their own destiny. It is not handed to them. If you are born in the US, you have a hell of a better chance at success than any other country... but that's because of the freedom to do these things that can make your life.

Thanks, you saved me from having to make this post in a much less friendly manor. +1 to you.

Also, peshooter, thank god you won't be teaching my daughter, I wouldn't want her to be a quitter like you.

Damn, didn't quite save me but close.

I prefer my taxes not go from 38% to 50% thanks. I don't consider myself rich at all but I am glad you think 200K is!

I work in Chelsea, where a lot of people from Brockton work and if you want to see abuse come on down and see what the EBT card holders are eating, drinking, wearing and driving. You haven't a clue how hard it is to get people that have no skill sets or education to even take a job for 12.00 and hour and 18.00 with overtime when they feel the gubberment will be there with gimmies.[sad]

I am a newbie here but this stuff just kills me. Most people shouldn't ever say a word in a debate until they have taken a class in logic. That is where you learn to analyze sentences and arguments. You learn to realize when people are using generalities, stereotyping, or circular logic, to make their position seem valid. The second a person uses words like majority, many, most, almost everyone, etc., you know they are blowing smoke up your skirts. Demand numbers and statistics!!! Demand explanations of words or terms such as AK-47. Even Bill O'Reilly blew it the other night, saying anyone can buy an automatic assault rifle.

Watch your favorite news show tonight and count how many times they use such words when debating a point or position.

The second you use false logic in a debate, you should hang it up and go home.

Everyone says the American Dream is dead and America is unfair, but then when someone starts with nothing, works shit jobs for years while putting themselves through school, gets multiple degrees, and eventually gets into the top 10% or so, you say it's because they are just another privileged white boy who had everything handed to them and that he doesn't deserve it because life isn't fair, and the fact that he made it is evidence that America isn't fair. Then politicians get on TV and demonize the poor bastard for being the guy who pays for all the entitlement programs that benefit the people who blame him for everything because the politicians don't want you to blame them for mismanaging your country.

It's tiresome. And I don't know what any of this has to do with AK-47s.

You do realize this is a forum on the internet, right? Your instructions would break the entire structure of the world wide web and the universe would collapse in on itself.

Hallelujah, I keep hearing the American dream is dead but I'm not seeing it in reality. What I do see is people who didn't have the drive to succeed, couldn't take a risk or made bad choices who then complain that the American Dream is dead because they haven't been able to make it happen for themselves.

This x 100. The issue is that you get some individuals who want to believe a particular thing so they just say how they feel about something instead of using a rational approach in determining the root cause of a problem.

Emotion, not rationality, is the "foundation" to their "world".

I always find it entertaining when some of the socialists stop by and start posting their stuff. Their arguments get torn apart in short order, but sure enough they show up later in another thread repeating the same nonsense because, as we all know, if you just keep repeating something then it must be true.

They don't like dealing in facts and logic because those aren't the right tools to push a philosophically bankrupt agenda. Emotion, generalities, and changing the meanings of words are their stock in trade. They also don't like challengers who start asking specific questions because that threatens the house of cards which makes up their argument.

If they used a rational approach to taking a look at things they wouldn't be socialists anymore because they would essentially be arguing with themselves.

Any way you slice it, if Obama doesn't fix the economy, it doesn't get better for anyone, and if you think taking money from 'the rich' and giving it to 'the poor' is going to fix the economy, you're out of your mind.

For the American Dream to work, the economy needs to be growing, so that there are opportunities for people at all points on the income ladder to pull themselves up a rung or two.

Your do not speak for me! I will rise from the middle class into the upper class by my own reasoning mind and unfaltering ability! I will follow in the footsteps of both my grandfather and father... these men are who taught me the nature of my virtues!

The American dream has always been alive and there have always been naysayers and looters who hope to condemn men to "perpetual mediocrity" while hitchhiking on their progress! I will succeed in whatever venture I pursue and I will enjoy stepping over your withered corpse on the way there as you attempt to sanction my effort in the name of "the common good"

FOAD you collectivist scum!!!!

You didn't clarify anything with your ignorant/incorrect burden of proof comment nor did you clarify anything or add anything intelligent with your tail comment. What you posted was simply stupidity.

BTW, as a judge I never had a decision reversed on appeal. So if you want to be a jerk and make more stupid comments like that, go ahead. I won't see them directly. You're going on my ignore list. I wouldn't use any of the terms you list to describe you. I'd say troglodyte is appropriate.

A Judge, really what court? Trial , probate, juvenile? What county?

Your kidding .....aren't you?

I don't know, but all of this anti-american socialist "this isn't fair because the government isn't giving me my fair share at life" talk is making my penis very soft. How the f a talk about Barry not liking the AK-47 turns into a bunch of closet progressives talking about how life isn't fair because the government doesn't give them what they deserve is beyond my comprehension. I'd like for them to show up at a AK build that I help out at so I can ask them what part of an AKM is socialist.... wait. Shit.

I'm going to go build another AK tonight and tomorrow, drink a ton of beer, listen to some music, and bask in the glory that my fine country has provided the opportunity for me to realize. Can I do this in f'ing England? How about Canada? Australia? Anywhere? Hell f'n no.

I can drink beer and build AKs in my own home, no matter what Obama wants to spout off about what he approves of or not.

And that will make me hard again. An erection built not on lust, but on bliss that I live in a free world.

That's pretty hard-up. I mean hardcore.

Hey ! I have an idea, maybe Mr. Obama can send some of the AK-47's to Mexico, that would help get them off our streets. Oh, I forgot Mr. Obama's already done that. Never mind.

One could only hope...:)
Maybe we should make it a national competition to see which news channel, commentator, politician, does the most. The top ten (one-hundred?) in a month with the highest scores would have to step down from their positions immediately, and go to work for a small business. We keep thinning the ranks until they get below 10 incidents per month.
Weathermen are excluded, of course. otherwise we wouldn't have any!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![rofl]
