Gun Rights Activists Sue Over Massachusetts Firearms Laws

"If there is anything positive about AG Healey's unprecedented and unilateral politically motived attack on lawful citizens, it is that our plight has been pushed onto the national civil rights stage," GOAL Executive Director Jim Wallace said in a statement announcing the lawsuit. Wallace acknowledged "the assistance and guidance of the National Rifle Association" in filing the lawsuit. "Together we are drawing a line in the sand where Massachusetts' gun control agenda tramples the fundamental individual right to defend oneself and family in the home," he said.

AG vows strong defense as gun owners sue to end assault weapons ban

The suit cites the 2008 Supreme Court case District of Columbia v. Heller, which struck down a Washington, D.C., handgun possession ban, to argue against what it describes as a prohibition of “an entire class of popular firearms commonly kept for lawful purposes.” Healey said she plans to continue her work “protecting public safety and addressing issues of gun violence.” “Enforcing an assault weapons ban is just one piece of this,” she said.
