Uzi Toting Bandits Robbery Spree Up To 6 Jobs In 48 Hours

Police Have Released Images Of Alleged Robbers

PHILADELPHIA - The search is back on for two bandits who have struck six times in less than two days.

Philadelphia police released a man they were questioning Thursday night after determining he was not involved in a string of robberies in West Philadelphia.

They said they are searching for two men between the ages of 17 and 20 who are taking a lot of risks for small amounts of cash.

The latest incident happened Thursday at a bar at 51st and Market streets.

Police said it is connected to five other robberies in the area over the past two days, all involving an Uzi.

Detectives said one suspect has robbed three stores. The other times he has brought a partner. After they hit a place, they ride away on black BMX bikes.

The robbers move fast and have been careful.

"They're not wearing gloves, but they're very careful as they navigate through these places as to what they touch," police Lt. John Walker said. "The things they're touching, they're using their sleaves to cover their hands."
Surveillance video taken from a state-run liquor store was released Thursday. But they haven't been caught on video everywhere.

Walker explained, "They're older-type bars because they don't have the new surveillance equipment, and he's targeting those types of businesses and older people behind the bar, so he doesn't get much resistance."

Sonny Vine, the owner of the latest bar that was hit reported that one robber stuck a gun to his wife during the heist.

Although no one has been injured in any of these incidents, police fear it will take just a flash of irritation for an itchy trigger finger, Fox 29's Julie Kim reported.

"With that type of weapon and the capacity -- it holds up to 30 rounds in that clip -- if someone resists or, as he's moving that gun around, it discharges there are numerous people in these places," Walker said.

Police were passing out fliers in the community Friday afternoon hoping to get a tip that might lead them to the robbers.

The gun depicted in the surveilance photo is clearly NOT an Uzi.
But when it comes to these clueless media types, facts don't matter.
More than a few of the comments pointed out this fact, but that's not enough to make them correct their mistake. Making changes to an ONLINE story must require WAY too much effort. [frown]
Besides, "Mac-Ten Toting Bandits" or "BMX Riding Bandits" dosen't have the cache of "Uzi Toting Bandits".

And listening to the bar owner about "they don't know what they goin' to do; they crazy" and something about "that long clip sticking out of that thing", all I really hear is "baaa baaa baa baa"!

How many times do we even have confirmation the gun is even frickn' real? Forget about what brand it is.

Well, identifying the gun shouldn't be a problem. According to the news story
Sonny Vine, the owner of the latest bar that was hit reported that one robber stuck a gun to his wife during the heist.

I don't know if it was stuck on with duct tape, super glue, or whatever, but can't the police just peel it off and identify it? [wink]
