I picked up a Mossberg 340KA a little while back that needed some TLC. I went thru it, replaced a few parts gave it a good cleaning and today was range day with it. The issue I am having, may not be an issue at all, I'm just not familiar with the rifle enough to know. Here is what I have to do:

Push Bolt forward
Take safety off
Pull Trigger (fires)
Put safety on
operate bolt to extract, eject and load new round from magazine
Bolt Forward
Take safety off
Repeat

Is it normal to have to put the safety on every time you operate the bolt? When I cycle the bolt without putting the safety on, it wont fire as the trigger stays rearward.

I just don't want to go chasing a problem when there isn't one.

I had a 342 that the safety would hang up.
The actions are very close to the same.
The safety only blocks the trigger. It's a rather crude design.
Try holding the safety in the fire position and slowly cycle the bolt and see if you feel any resistance.
Make sure the safety pivot is free of grit.
It's been 20 years since I had my 342 so I'm trying to think how it functions.
Generally only single shot "youth " rifles have auto safety.
The 3xx uses a hammer vs a spring loaded bolt
