Missing thread on stolen firearms?

I've been through the archives using the Search function for the last half-hour, with no luck. Does anyone remember a thread on an interstate registry of stolen firearm serial numbers?

No, the only one I know of is NCIC, run by the FBI IIRC. Searching it isn't real easy as it lists by S/N ONLY (at least the last time I used it many years ago), so you may find the same S/N for all sorts of guns and many different brands to sort thru to find what you are actually looking for.

NCIC was the subject of the discussion, but it must have been an off-topic spin-off. I'll try the search again with NCIC.

Just found a fed issued armory card (with S/Ns*) for a stolen firearm from years back, which pushed me to getting a copy of the larceny report. Using the two documents, I am going to ask the local C.o.P. to see if the S/Ns are in NCIC. Don't believe it will really help get either gun back, but...
