If a Democrat made that statement, a lot of you posting things like" he must be confused" would be raising Holy Hell (and rightly so).
He can talk about enforcing existing laws all he wants, but in my book, anyone who starts off an answer to the question with:"Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill." is a gun grabber.
For all I know he's the Holy Grail in all other respects for you Republicans, which is fine, maybe you oppose him on gun control and like him on other stuff. But I don't think you can look at that statement and think he's pro 2A.
I think we are raising holy hell, or gettin' ready too. The GOP is on it's knees, and needs to hear from the base loud and frigging clear. In these times, we on the right have as clear a chance as ever, and maybe our last chance, to influence what the party does for the next 25 years.
Steele has stated that the Republicans may wander in the wilderness until 2020. He's knows what's at stake. He has left-leaning moderates trying to tug him to the left ... go soft on guns, on abortion, on homosexuality, on the other big hot-button social issues.
We need to tug him to the right. Hard.
If it doesn't work out, we walk away as we walked from Bush I and to an extent from Bush II. Neither was warmly regarded by conservatives. Both presided over governments best described as liberal-lite. Despite what you may think, conservatives were against the "compassionate conservatism" model from the start and view it as the disaster that brought us to where we are today.
This is make or break. Either the GOP goes back to its roots and makes a stand, or revo-bloody-lution.
What Steele had to say in Maryland might not play as well on the national stage. Steele is smart, and he knows that. He needs to reposition himself, and the party, and we need to let him hear it from us. As long as we have a national political party that is amenable to persuasion, we must try to persuade. There's simply no point at all in addressing our concerns to the moonbat messiah and his creepy entourage of leftist toadies.
What we don't need is advice from the moonbat choir.
