Sorry, but I think it's too late. Take a poll at your work: What percentage of your co-workers, regardless of gender, would change a flat in the parking lot after work? How many are able to, or have done so?
And you think that they'll play with matches, or sharpen a knife?
The majority of people don't want to know how to do anything, so they won't have to do anything. That's why the "Dinner in a box" companies are doing well - nobody wants to have to decide what to cook (but still want the virtue of "eating natural."
Sadly, that's true for far too many.
Personally, I have changed tires on the side of the road. It's been a while since I've done so, but I've done it. I even have the 4-way lug nut 'wrench' that can be used (for more leverage).
Of course, if I manage to get the air system into the new truck (along with the horns) I'll be able to use an impact wrench to do it.
With my current truck, though, I have OnStar, so I don't HAVE to do any of that. Well, unless I don't want to wait (on the side of the road), or I'm at home (where I have air tools and a floor jack).
I'm also the person in the family that gets asked to sharpen knives. My mother has been having me sharpen two of them FAR too often lately. Like every couple of months. I have some that I've just sharpened (for the first time) and I've had them over 15 years. Mostly because I don't abuse them and use the steel on them often.
How sad is it when people actually DO that "dinner in a box" thing?? I mean, seriously, how difficult is it to go to the grocery store once (or twice) a week to get what's needed?? Hell, with where I'll be going to work (starting tomorrow), I'll go right by one of the grocery stores I shop at twice a day. Not hard to swing in to get stuff on the way home if needed. I used to do that all the time when going to Burlington, MA. Shopping like that is also [typically] fast each time. I can be in and out in maybe 15-20 minutes. Provided people aren't retarded inside the place (not an issue the majority of the time).
