CLAY CITY, Ky. — A police chief in eastern Kentucky was shot to death Wednesday by a prisoner in the back seat of his cruiser, the Powell County judge-executive said.
Judge-Executive Darren Farmer said Police Chief Randy Lacy was shot by a man he arrested shortly after 11 a.m. EDT.
The alleged shooter was taken to the Montgomery County jail, WLEX-TV reported. Jail officials referred calls to state police, who did not immediately return a call for comment.
A dispatcher who answered the phone for the Clay City police department declined to comment saying details would be released later in the day.
Clay City is about 40 miles east of Lexington.
