Just before my heart attack, now six months this coming Monday, I was down to two K98s from a high of 20. My first from 1995, a DOT44, and one mostly matching, a 1939 Sauer. It seems if you keep them in the dark they multiply!

Today I picked up a 1936 RC S/243; Mauser Borsigwalde. I am rebuilding an ant hill from a mountain. I've decided to find the ten WW2 makers again, but on the "cheap." For example, this RC replaces an all-but-bayonet-lug matched 1939 Luftwaffe piece I used to have. So now I find myself with six of ten makes; Borsigwalde, Sauer, Berlin-Lubecker, Gustloffwerke, Mauser, and Brunn I. Missing are Brunn II (Bystrica), Steyr, Erma, and the ever elusive bSw.

I just finished cleaning and tung-oiling the stock, and wiping down the metal. The stock is a "correct" hardwood '37 Mauser Obendorf stock. In 1937, the transition began to laminate stocks - this one has Nazi eagles. The rifle is also an EARLY '36; SN 9343 no-letter-block. I added a 12 inch cleaning rod, muzzle cover, and reproduction sling.

We took the antiques to Onset for a car show. This is probably the only pic of our two side by side. Holly's Mustang threw a hub cap on 495. Miraculously it crossed three lanes of traffic without getting squashed and ended up in the swale. I did a credible 40 yard dash (given my condition) twice to recover it - these are the deluxe 21 spoke wire wheel covers - at $150 apiece.

I can introduce our new mil-surp bunny Magnolia - a 2 year old female mini-lop rescue. She's inspecting the goods. We had to put down the little Palomino yesterday - lung cancer.
