It's one way to get around, you will notice that your not going to get the results what your used to on the range. Myself would keep it the way it is and store away..

Looks like standard M80 ball. Love the funky purple primer sealant. Don't expect match accuracy. might be better suited for a M1A but at least the brass is great for re-loading.
 
Remington Arms US 7.62 nato ball ammo belted on M-60 machinegun links.

Likely very safe to shoot in a .308 bolt gun.
 
US M80 ammunition is the same whether it is linked for use in machine guns or loose for use in rifles.
