The correct answer is that it's worse now and the cause of it being worse now is that the left has had 5 1/2 years to become crazier and the right has moved towards the left in those years i.e. the republicans are the democrats of yesteryear and democrats are socialists.

They are now using the term assault rifle much more frequently than in the past and using it more than their made up term assault weapon. They're trying to associate AR's with select fire weapons. .

Yup. I was down in FL last week/weekend visiting my mom (neutral? on gun control) and stepdad (antigun) and my mom started spouting off that she doesn't have an issue with guns except for "assault rifles". She actually thought/believed that the Florida shooter (and pretty much all of the mass shooters) were using select fire rifles. I thought I had explained this to her years ago but apparently she forogot. I was incredibly frustrated but she and my stepdad watch the MSM and eat it right up.

Good thing that came from the visit down there was that I got her to shoot a pistol for the first time at 59 years old. She bought a Ruger SR9 almost 2 years ago and never shot it until this past weekend. She did not really enjoy it too much and couldn't hit much at 10 yards (closest distance at the local range). Oh well. She keeps it loaded and hidden inside the wall behind a painting...God forbid she ever has to use it, she probably won't be shooting an intruder 10 yards away....

No offense but if she doesn’t like the SR9 and isn’t confident in her ability to hit anything with it then she probably won’t actually pull the trigger when she really needs it.

Maybe try something different?
